Not sure if I’ll be taken seriously by the hardcore Tuscan crowd as I’ve not posted anything here for at least a couple of years. In my defense all I can say is that I’ve spent the last two-plus years in Malaysia, occasionally having arguments with the car (including an engine rebuild – yes, here in Malaysia!) but mostly living the good life and just enjoying the nearly empty motorways. OK, there is sometimes a ‘fee’ attached to trying to confirm the maximum speed of a Tuscan S. But only if mr. policeman is aware of it, and then it will cost you no more than the equivalent of nine quid. On the spot (in the cop car, without receipt...), and with no points deducted from your license, local or international...

Anyway, for those that remember, I’ve had a few arguments with the dash pod in the past, when the car was still in Sweden. Mainly with the oil pressure reading, which on occasion would drop down to single digits, and – most annoyingly – zero while idling, complete with buzzing every few seconds. Nothing wrong with the pressure, mind you, just the reading. The low pressure light has never come on, and the oil level was always on max. And funny enough, when it happened, it would invariably be after filling up petrol. With the engine being either lukewarm or hot, no difference there.

Fast forward to present day Malaysia: While the engine was being rebuilt here, I replaced the oil pressure sensor and…no more low pressure warnings! I still had the odd warning now and then, e.g. zero temperature (in Malaysia!?!), but nothing else to worry about. Then, last week, after I filled up the tank – guess what? Low oil pressure! Again! Off with the pod cover, check all the contacts, spray them with electronic cleaner. A-OK, no worries, mate. For two days. Then it started again. And it’s stayed like that, nothing helps.

Any tips? Is it the sensor that’s crap? Or bad wiring? I do plan to send the dash to CM for a check-up, but the problem may be elsewhere. Is there any electric/electronic link between the fuel sensor and the oil pressure sensor that I don’t know about that may be causing this? I know I’m clutching at straws here, but I’ll listen to any advice. I'm reasonably handy with anything electronic and would be able to rectify it if I'm given a pointer. And for the guru that actually helps me resolve this, I’ll treat you, anytime, to a KL – S’pore run in well under three hours (Not, mind you, including the S’pore checkpoint, which nowadays is slower than Checkpoint Charlie ever was; nor any unplanned public toilet visits on the way, ha, ha).

I am having similar problems with my Tamora at the moment.

No one seems to have a definitive answer though the OP sensor has been changed but not resolved the issue. I also know that the engine OP is fine as it has been wet gauge tested.

Several people have suggested it might be an earthing problem so I think that will be my next port of call.

Good luck!

Can't believe you've got a tuscan over there, must be so amazing!

My wife's Singaporean so we try to go over a couple of times a year, and I've always thought how awesome it would be to take the Tuscan. Thought no one would ever have seen one before. Guess I'm wrong!
