Spotted some marking on the plastic trim below my screen around the driver's side wiper drive shaft, anyone else spotted this wear happening on their car ? Has it been discussed previously with solutions suggested, the trim looks to be in the right place, but it's obvious there's not enough clearance between the wiper arm and the trim.

A well placed washer should sort that (if you can get the arm off smile )

The problem wit that, is that the arms are usually on tapered splines.

I will have a look at spacing the pivot assembly away from the body of the car, assuming the wiper motor is on the other arm, as you rightly say Araf, no point in trying to move the arm on the shaft. Would still be interested to see if anyone else has the same clearance issue.

How about a bigger nylon washer under the arm (between arm and scuttle cover)? That would space the scuttle cover away from the arm.

Another option to look at, cheers, and maybe the same solution as suggested by JohnM, will have the spanners out tomorrow night and take a closer look.

Had a closer look, and as you can see below, the red arrow shows where there is an amount of clearance between the 2 sections of the Scuttle Panel that does not look correct, not sure if they come out of the factory like that, possibly the plastic has changed shape over time. I will be looking at how I can get the 2 sections to meet correctly without the clearance, if I can do this then it may give clearance between the wiper arm and plastic panel. Will update the post with any progress.

I think this is the problem area, does look as if it is plastic that as worped, unless something is supposed to clip it down. Not had mine off to check and scared to remove it now incase there is a clip and I break it.frown

With a little work with a hairdryer and a new plastic rivet I think I have solved the issue.

No gap between the upper and lower sections of the Scuttle Panel.

Can now see clearance between the Wiper Arm and plastic panel.

Hopefully things will stay where they are, and efforts were worthwhile.

Nice one, thought it must be the plastic and not the arm.

Glad its sorted.

Hope you get on OK with sorting the issue, if you need any help/suggestions alone the way give me a shout, if you decide to use a new plastic rivet as I have done, be careful where you drill the hole as there is a cut-out section in the lower section of the Scuttle Panel which leaves very little plastic to aim for.

Good Luck
