Having a slight issue with my recently purchased XJ6. Went to start it this morning and it wouldn't crank at all, bit of juggling key/spare key and locking and unlocking and it fired up no problem. Came to drive it back home and same issue, come to the conclusion its the immobiliser staying on for whatever reason.

Bit of a Google confirms the CEL will go off with the key in pos 2 if the immobiliser is still on and it does. The fob locks & unlocks the doors remotely perfectly fine, batteries in the fob are brand new. I've checked all the fuses and they were okay, I've cleaned both earths on the bulkhead which temporarily fixed it.

Come out again to try it and its doing it again, scratching my head at the moment. Googling isn't shedding much light, inertia switch? Battery on the way out? ECU fault?

Jim.

Edit: I've re-programmed the fob too, didn't work. Fob seems to operate fine the car just doesn't seem to think the key is in the ignition 95% of the time?

Edit 2: Some more research shows the immobiliser system is completely seperate from the fob related side, so I'm guessing my issue is with the chip in the key not being recognised. So I'm guessing my issue lies in the ignition barrel itself, the wiring or the security module in the drivers footwell. Ugh.

Mine too. If it's a bit sensitive you can take the gearlever surround off and bend the lever out a bit.
