Newbie - Volante
Discussion
Hi All
Just wanted to introduce myself, first car was a mk1 escort I fitted Mexico wings :-) - last 2 cars were SL500 and XF, with a huge list I between ( have you ever wrote down every car you have owned , ) but it's time to step up .
So I am in the market for a Volante, 06/07 year is as dear as I can stretch with a bit left over for 'servicing & repairs'
I have gained a lot of information from this Forum but would like to ask a few more Questions to help me find the right one
Warenty - if bought privately, but had a 140 point inspection by AM would they sell me a warranty or are there any good alternatives ?
Independent inspection or AM inspection
Private or main dealer - I have seen a private one with the exact spec I like and it's in my price range, just a bit nervous of buying private !
Thanked all

First of all, welcome.
Second of all, buy 'the book': http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... It will tell you everything that you need to know (and more) about finding and buying the ideal Gaydon Aston for you.
Yes, you can get a 140 point inspection carried out by an AM Service Centre and then get an AM warranty put on a private car. Just be warned, however, that the 140 point inspection isn't either foolproof or all encompassing. It's basically there to check that there aren't going to be any major warranty failings in the next year.
A better bet might be to get the car inspected by a reputable independent. Have a look in the FAQ for the list of recommended independents. Budget at least a couple of hours labour for the inspection.

Agree a price with the seller on condition that the car passes a pre-warranty inspection at an Aston Martin dealership.
Budget for the inspection into the price you agree with the seller.
Then budget the £1500-1800 for the AM warranty for 12 months (I personally wouldn't bother with a third party warranty, they are mostly cheaper for a reason in my opinion - it's hard to get them to pay out and they rarely agree to use AM workshops). I had a third party warrannty on my 911 a few years
ago , it wasn't worth the paper it was printed on, they had a get-out cluase for everything !
I have an 08 plate Vantage Roadster , just ticked over to 60,601 miles this morning. I've kept it under warranty and it's been the right choice in my case. I've used the warranty cover several times and it's been great for piece of mind also.
Good luck finding the right car, it'll be worth the wait !
Oh and if you come across a nice 4.7 Vantage Roadster for +-£50k then let me know and you can buy mine

I know exactly what you mean.
My warranty started in December. They even included a Sanity Clause.

This one?

I've just bought a 2 previous owner, December 2007 (MY08) Coupe with just 27,000 miles with 10 AM service stamps, 12 months warranty, recovery, 2 years wheel and tyre insurance, from a main stealer for not much more than that. I also got a fair trade in price for my treasured TVR Tuscan.
All I'm saying is I think I have a good car from a main dealer which took all the hassle out of buying and selling privately. It is worth having a look at the dealers.

Yes that's the one - I have not discussed price yet, would expect to get a good reduction for private sale ! Will take a look at used approved AM as well. My local dealer ( Wilmslow ) has a 2006 but 46000 mls - but I would like a lower mileage
Wilma
I bought mine off them too I dealt with AdamWilma
