Canyon Bikes - Sizing and Buying Process
Discussion
Canyon Ultimate CF SL on the shortlist (along with a Look 675).
Obviously great value but has anyone here got one/ ridden one or have real world experience of buying direct and sizing?
Website shows stock arriving in late June. Is it reasonable to buy one now and wait that long?
Geometry looks quite racy but am looking for comfort also.
TIA.

I bought a Canyon Nerve FS a couple of years ago. Rather than use their sizing tool (I know I'm often a small and often a medium) I compared tube lengths etc to my current bike and bought based on that. Worked out well.
I think I had an 8 week wait and the estimate was pretty much spot on - maybe brought forward a week or two and this was during the end of season sale. Communication was pretty good (credit card being debited and delivery details) and it turned up bang on time.
Not had a reason to call customer services. Have heard they have gotten better and the UK team are pretty good. HQ customer service in Germany is apparently non-existent.
Sorry can't help on the specific model.

I bought a Nerve CF full suspension MTB in December. The online sizing guide had me on a medium...I'm a large, googling suggests to go with what you have always had as the online tool seems to "downsize" quite a bit.
Customer services aren't great, my frame is being replaced under warranty & they've had the bike since mid March. Not that chuffed tbh, you pays yer money & all that...I do know people who have them & all are very pleased & recommended them. This may be the case until something goes wrong...that said a roadbike is a much simpler device than a full suss mtb I guess.
For the spec you get & the money you pay they do seem very good value.

Have you looked in their outlet section some great deals in there. I have bought a couple of Nerve Mountain Bikes and an Aeroad road bike, very happy with the service and sizing using the chart. Make sure you order all of the accessories you need whilst ordering the bike as you can get some good deals on pedals, stands, pumps and waterbottles etc. Was tempted to order This for the wife the other day but I don't want her giving me an even bigger whooping on the hills.
mixed bag here
I bought an Ultimate SLX and love it
we've bonded up several Alps and Pyrenees
major downers have been the appalling aftersales when stuff broke and the rigid adherence to the T&C for changing stems etc if the fit wasnt perfect
the flip side is nothing came close for the money so Im happy
but mine is 3y old and their current prices arent nearly as good in comparison
would I buy mine again - YES
would I buy it at todays prices - NO
cheers
I have a friend with a cf slx who loves it, its his Sunday best/sportive bike and He hasn't mentioned any comfort issues. I think it's about 4 hours from Calais to the canyon factory/shop, sure it eats into the saving by going direct but if you want the bike for what it is rather than because it's a bit cheaper than the competition (as a result of their direct sales policy) it might be worth driving over to get it right..
....especially if you can split costs of ferry and petrol!! *goes off to look at the again*

Their website measuring tool has me down as a small, 53cm but I'm just under 6ft with and inside leg of 32. Was sure I would be a medium

Pretty sure 53cm would be too small. I've just ordered a 53cm and I'm 5'8''. The sizing tool recommended a 53cm but I compared the geometry with my current bike. You'll probably need a 56cm....but you may have stumpy arms or a hobbit-length torso....Their website measuring tool has me down as a small, 53cm but I'm just under 6ft with and inside leg of 32. Ha ha, detour to the 'ring as well?!... Calais to Koblenz is 500kms, or about 5 hours drive, it's doable in a day, albeit a long day!
I'd hunt the forums for someone local with one you could try for size, sign up to rcuk, road.cc and the rest and I'm sure you'll find someone willing to help. I'll find out what size my friend bought as he is just under 6ft but I appreciate we're all different. I'd definately say a small is an odd recommendation though, maybe some geo comparison with other brands?

Bit of a wait but nevermind.

There seems to be a problem with SLX frames and the VCLS seat post. People on Bike Radar are reporting their frames cracking at the top of the seat tube and the VCLS seems to be a common factor.
Canyon are swapping frames when they break but you might want to think about not using the trick seat post.
