Ihave posted this in the Cayman/Boxster section, but wondered if any 991 owners had had an experience of similar seeing as they share the mirror housing etc.... Thanks!

Hi all,

Very very happy with my recent purchase as some of you may know, however there has been a minor niggle that I'm hoping someone may be able to assist with......

Shortly after picking up the car I noticed what appeared to be some wind noise from the drivers side window. I reported the issue to my dealer who after extensive test driving suggested that the door seal so be replaced.

The door seal has been done, but the noise is still there. Having driven the car around with the window open due to the good weather it has become apparent that the 'whistle' is indeed coming from somewhere else, but is loud enough to still hear when the window is closed....

My first thought is it could be the door mirror, but apparently this was removed to check when the car was being test driven.

Does anyone one have any experience with anything similar?? It is quite annoying to be honest and I just want to get it sorted now!

I know the tech has done this, but i'm going to have a go at taping a few of the bits up to see if I can isolate it. My ear is clearly tuned in to it!

Any help would be very welcome!

Thanks,

Nick

I had this problem with a BMW and it was indeed the wind whistling on the wing mirror but only between speeds of 30-40mph - multiple trips to the dealer were next to useless...

In the end the way I diagnosed it was by using electricians tape to block up different gaps until the whistling stopped. It was then easy to demonstrate to the dealer exactly where the whistling was originating from - it was the gap between the mirror and the hinge itself.

Perhaps try this method to pin down the issue.

Edit: I didn't read your last sentence but sounds like you're on it already ! hehe

Oh gosh... Nick Murray had a whistle noise from the passenger door and you know how that went. But I think he was saying that an electrical fault mean that while driving the door window had dropped a few mm as if the car was prepared for "door open". Is the window fully closed up?

I think I have the same issue on the passenger side of my Cayman.

Window up, can't hear a thing, yet as I accelerate to higher speeds, I get an unbearable high pitched whistle.

Did you find a solution to your issue in the end?

Any help would be appreciated!

Can't hear much in mine above the glovebox lid squeaking.
