Hi guys.

Need some urgent advice.

Last May I bought a 31,000 mile CSL from a BMW main dealer with a 12 month warranty. Car is mint and clearly a well looked after example.

Just took it in for an inspection 2 having covered less than 2,000 miles this year.

Dealer commented it needs the following:

Washer jet clear out
Gearbox reprogramming to adapt to my driving style - I commented on erratic changes
Perished air con belt

And the big one.....

Cracked subframe.

Dealer claims nothing is covered by BMW approved warranty.

I dispute this, particularly the subframe.

What do you guys think? Get BMW UK involved?

Thanks, Matt

It was a warranty issue then and it should be now.

I would post on the csl forum and on csl register. A lot of csl's have been through this. Mine was done by BMW but with munich legends taking the car to them. That might be another avenue to pursue

You will get good advise on the csl register, but if you want your car checked properly speak to Emma at Elms Cambourne.

Car over 10 years then can't see BMW paying for the sub frame repair.

Regarding the gear box you need to go out and give the car a good thrashing to make it work properly.

I cannot be 100% but at c30mph in neutral on a straight bit of road I thought you either pushed or pulled both paddles and waited for 10secs for some sort of reset.

The anti corrosion warranty is 12 years. It also has BMW approved warranty on it, so surely covered somewhere.

What warranty did they give for 12 months? This is key to the claim as this sort of warranty may not be the same as the BMw Mondial (Axa) warranty options.

Is the car 2004 registered (you say 12 month anti corrosion)

The car was bought as an approved used BMW so the same warranty as any used car from the BMW network I believe. That was 11 months and 1600 or so miles ago.

Car registered 03/03/2004 so should benefit from 12 year anti corrosion warranty.

Can't see how I am not covered.

You are covered. Contact BMW customer services and tell them what the garage told you. They will most likely be on the phone to the garage and get them to do the work under warranty.

I'm not so sure, check the wording of your warranty first, then get it to Elms Cambridge if you can as they are not just plinkered against warranty claims, they will rather than dismiss it, look at it properly and tell you what they think.

That is the dealer in question.

Then I'd guess you aren't covered.

If I were you I'd push for the subframe fix under goodwill as 10 years is only just up and you could argue it was sold to you by BMW with that fault, the other items are trivia and if they are not covered by warranty, not worth arguing about a d will cost about £250 at an Indie BMW.

Call BMW customer services and say you need them to call your dealership and authorise the repair.

The cracks have not appeared in the last 1600 miles and you have a warranty. There cannot be anything in the warranty that excludes this kind of damage. It is not wear and tear.

The warranty is strictly 10 years from build date, not registered date. I suspect it was built Dec/Jan??
The build date is shown on the NSF suspension mount iirc.

You may get goodwill if you have FBMWSH and push the fact it is low mileage approved used.

Lots of advice on M3 Cutters if you're not registered there already.

I know they're meant to be CSL specialists, but I've heard and experienced nothing but bad things from their service department. Emma and the front desk team are good, but the service managers and techs are awful.

If you have a bmw approved waranty it should cover anything needed for the MOT. I would guess the subframe issue would fail the MOT so they would have to fix it even if it wasn't under the good will gesture. Sounds like you need to take it to a better dealer though.

Emma is the service manager.
Gareth is one of the most respected techs in the BMW network.

Having used them in the recent past, I'd suggest that if they say it's not covered, then it's not covered.

Emma was Customer Service manager last time I went in. Rob Sawford I think is the Service Manager, unless they're just swapping job titles around.

This^. The axle carrier panel subframe issue has nothing to do with the 12 year corrosion warranty that exists on 04 cars onwards, it is as stated a 10 year (from the date of production not registration)'goodwill' repair by BMW.
Best of luck.

It is not an MOT failure
