Taking the olds away for a week around September,
The old fella aint too good on his feet so will want somewhere flatish with places to sit every 50/100 yards.
I will be take a bike of some variety so I can escape for a few hours and pedal my time away.

Any recommendations?

Norfolk?

Lots of nice coastal towns with easy strolls and some nice (although flattish) cycling nearby

Norfolk Broads, get a boat and the old chap won't have to walk. He can sit and watch the world go by.

Barmouth, nice little town with plenty of shops/cafes/pubs, nice beach, plenty of benches around the harbour area (if they're still there), beautiful scenery, Dolgellau down the road which is a nice little town, loads of mountain biking places and nice roads for riding.

We have looked at Harlech, but going off a map it seems slightly remote, could be wrong.

On a serious note this is an excellent suggestion. Plenty of flat walking by the harbour and down the seafront, two railways up to Port Maddoc one down to Fairbourne then the Ffestiniog at Port Maddoc wonderful centre for elderly exploration. Take some beating!

Southwold nice relaxed genteel little coastal town with a long promenade and nice pier.

Also loads of great pubs, good food and beers (Home of the Adnams brewery)

Pebble beach I think from memory 40 years ago. But certainly accessible quaint interesting: good suggestion.

Some good places to eat close by too, Cross Foxes and Bwyty Mawddach not far away, Purple Moose ales are good if you like a decent pint.

And the George the Third at Penmaenpool just down the road with the old railway track still there. Quite outstanding hostelry. Good location. Portmeirion is not far away to the North. Then there is Harlech no wonder we see all three when we are around about from time to time. Wonderful scenery seems spot on to me.

Cregennan Lakes are stunning, maybe not for the olds although there are picnic benches there and they are accessible by car.

September will be chilly, so best to head south.

Southampton, Isle of Wight and the New Forest are a good bet.

Southampton has ancient city walls. The Isle of Wight is like going abroad to the seaside for fish and chips. The New Forest is a pretty, ancient wood with snakes and wild boars. Good for biking in the trees or on the seafront.

Spent many family holidays in and around Barmouth, and have lots of very happy memories form there, just bear in mind that being Wales if you want to see the best scenery you've gotta drive / walk up some pretty damn steep hills / mountains
