I would be playing Cann in that game, as well as Allen did when he came on the other day he is not great with big powerful CM's (YAYA)
Yep. Can, Gerrard and Henderson with Sterling Coutinho and Sturridge up front.

I'd start Moreno as well, I remember Arbeloa debuting at Barca away and doing an impressive job on Messi. The big question is whether Johnson starts. I'd personally put him on the bench.

We might even have bought a striker by then smile
Johnson is now 3rd or 4th choice full-back, no?

Interested to see whether the competition for places helps him raise his game or if he fades in to obscurity.

Kaveh Solekol on Skysports News just now:

"Liverpool still chasing Falcao but he still favours a move back to Spain. Real Madrid would be his preferred option however they would have to sell a non-EU player first".

He then goes on to say:

"It is my understanding that Liverpool are looking to sign a World Class striker before the window shuts".

Read into that what you like but I suspect Liverpool will be keeping an eye on an potential sale from Madrid. If none is forthcoming, Falcao is probably a very real option. 1 year loan perhaps? Apparently Eto'o is a fall back option.
As above, I'd take Bony +1.

Reality is we need two strikers, not one.

I say sign Falcao, then offer Swansea the £20m buyout for Bony, then offer Bony £50k a week, take it or leave it.

We need 3 if not 4 strikers. I'd take Falcao on loan or Eto'o for a year whilst we wait on the young Belgium lad to come in next year.

Still leaves us needing another longer term striker and whatever I think of Boni he'd score goals and has a much longer shelf life than Lambert.

It's much nicer in here now...

Falcao would be a real statement.

Can't see it though, even on loan.

According to Poyet, its liverpool that are holding up the Borini sale. We are waiting to sign anothe striker before selling him.

I hope I am wrong but I am preparing for disappointment.

I just don't think it's our MO to go for a big name on top wages. Bony my favourite of those mentioned so far,

Sounds somewhat sensible to me.

Just seen Suarez makes his 'debut' for Barcelona on SS5. Got a few minutes at the end of the friendly match with Leon. Strange seeing him in a Barca shirt. And no, he didn't bite anyone.... yet! biggrin

I wonder what odds you'd get on the top four in the table being the same after the last day of the season as after the first day?

Not a bad call at all. After just the first game week, I can see Chelsea winning the title, City finishing 2nd, Arsenal getting 3rd and us scraping into 4th. Worth a punt for sure.

Funny how certain players/clubs can bend the rules FIFA set so easily.Suarez making his Barcelona debut tonight...

Agreed, I really don't see it happening now, and I don't see why that should stop us getting a good price for Borini, he is hardly going to come off the bench and turn a game around in my opinion

( well done mods clap - a page of utter ste due to fans of other clubs, they bugger off and lo and behold sensible chat resumes)

I realise a line was (correctly) drawn earlier but I just got back in and wanted to apologise for my behaviour earlier.

I certainly wouldn't want anyone banned on my behalf and I'm embarrassed that I got involved in an internet argument - I'm probably a bit sensitive at the moment. Apologies to those concerned and sorry I derailed the thread, I'm an adult and I should know better.

Re the City game, I think this is a good time to play them. They clearly aren't firing on all cylinders yet and we can create chances and defend well - although I'd settle for a draw. Worried about midfield though. Will Markovic or Lallana be available next week?

Looking at the league table after one game (Chelsea, City, Arsenal, Liverpool), I can see it looking the same after another 37 games too.

No need to apologise Tidy. I think if JC had been banned (no ones fault but his own) you'd have been lauded a hero by many on here.

I think most of us would take that now combined with a good run in the CL and sound bedding in of the new players, plus a quality new striker in January/summer. Well I know I would!

No need to apologise but equally, no need to revisit this again. The thread moves on now and hopefully posters don't bring it up any more.

I don't want the next few days being full of people debating this. Let's just keep it to Liverpool chat and the decent banter that can be had.

Cheers. thumbup

Because of the Suarez sale, we've spent very little so far this season, about 20 million maximum.

I still want Assaidi, Lucas and one of Agger/Coates sold in addition to Borini. Best part of 40 million there with some serious wage savings. I think the money is there to bring someone in.

I doubt it's the money that's the issue. I imagine FSG are worried about selling Borini and then not being able to sign anyone else, leaving us with just Sturridge and Lambert!
