Lots of discussion about Suarez, Gerrard, hell even Borini () but the issue sits with our Defense. It was the problem area last year and its the problem this year.
Yet they are all international defenders who look good for their countries and would walk into a lot of top teams, I'm not sure we can go on blaming the defence. We don't have the energy in midfield with Lucas & Gerrard in there. It's barely acceptable in the transition from defence to attack, but when it's attack to defence we are vulnerable to the type of quick attack through midfield that we ourselves enjoyed so much success with last season. Just one good ball straight through the middle has us at sixes and sevens as the central defenders have to cover the space in front of them.
You could stick Beckenbauer & Moore in there right now and we'd still be shipping goals
He has to rest Gerrard at least tomorrow and try something new.
I believe that the back 4 should be the same (barring injuries) all season so they get used to playing together and that is the problem at the moment that they are not playing the same for many games in a row. Also think Minnolet is not dominant enough but is Brad Jones the only back up we have?
rumours of Joe Hart- really...
Boro have started well, got 15 points from 8 games so they will be up for it tomorrow

Eh?!
800,000. fk me, well done! Eh?!
Rodgers has been responsible for forcing out both Agger and Reina. Clearly both experienced professionals that speak their mind. Shame BR didn't handle it in a different way rather than just freezing them out. Both would have made a huge difference to the first 11 right now.
And of we're honest, I think we'd all rather see Agger in the squad ahead of Sakho and Reina ahead of Mignolet never mind Jones.
I like how Agger also acknowledged BRs talents by the way. My main problem with Agger was his fitness but when he was fit I'd have had him on the pitch.

While I miss Reina a lot from the club, it was he who created his own exit. He, or his agent, made it known he was touting for a return to Spain. So the club signed Mignolet as replacement. Then the perceived vacancy in Spain didn't materialise and we have a highly paid goalie on our hands. Granted, BR could have had him starting ahead of Mignolet but at the time, it was perceived Mignolet was coming as our new number one, hugely talented keeper, etc. hence Reina being allowed out on loan to get him off the wage bill.
Maybe this summer, BR still couldn't see Reina being ahead of Mignolet any more, I don't know. either way, it wasn't BR who decided Reina would be replaced straight away when he arrived. Reina created that for himself.
Agger's interview sounds like a disgruntled employee who shouted at the boss once too often and paid the penalty. Sadly.

Weird how he was made vice captain last season really!
Real shame about both him and Reina, but a manager does need to stamp his authority on a team at times. Just look how many times SAF did it with players.
Indeed. Only becomes a stick to beat the manager with if you fail. SAF, as much as I disliked him, was without doubt the standout manager of recent times. I have nothing against a manager stamping his authority. I just hope that Sakho finds his feet and Mignolet understands that he is allowed out of the 6 yard box.
Think I'd like to see a different strategy used on Tuesday instead of using it as an opportunity to play squad fillers. For instance what would a first choice midfield look like without Gerrard, what impact on the game can Gerrard have if he's bought on as an attacking midfielder for the last 20 mins. What does a front 3 of Balotelli, Sterling and Laser look like.
There are questions that need answering and we should use this game for that purpose rather than just resting some players and using the squad. Our current strategy isn't working.
The problem with dropping Gerrard is that it'll become a big thing. We're not playing well, he's not playing brilliant, BR drops him and all of a sudden he's past it and his career is virtually over.
Unfortunately, to manage the situation I think he needs to be dropped not due to form but because the opposition means we don't need him in the team. Middlesbrough might just be that opportunity!

I would agree i play an experimental side on Tuesday, and to be honest i think that is what you will get.I have nothing against a manager stamping his authority. I just hope that Sakho finds his feet and Mignolet understands that he is allowed out of the 6 yard box.

I would like to see if Sterling can play slightly more advanced, a split striker and link in with Baloteeli with Laser & Lallana. Gerrard comes on last 20 as attacking option, he can't do defence.
Lucas i would as the anchor the midfield.
Pick our 2 1st choice centre backs as well/strongest back 4. They need game time together.
Moving forward though, we just can't continue playing Gerrard in this CDM/Pirloesque role that is leaving us completely open to counter attack after counter attack.
He needs to play further forward, or not at all; and there is no way we'll drop him for all the reasons already mentioned.
Can and Henderson behind Gerrard?

I can't see Gerrard moving any further forward.
The whole point in moving back is that he doesn't have to rely on the high energy/workrate type of game that you can argue his legs don't have any more (or at least in a much reduced capacity).
So it's either stick with him where he is...or drop him. Some big managerial decisions coming up.
