Hi Guys,

Took Delivery of my Evora S Sports Racer last night . I must say I'm thrilled with it.

My only complaint so far is the Pioneer head unit is terrible. I've had about 6 Pioneer head units over the years and this has got to be the worse. Also the front speakers have a horrible bass to them. Although I only tried it from Bluetooth streaming from my Iphone which took hours to workout how to pair. First Impressions I don't think Ill be keeping the system in the car and that will be out within a couple of weeks.

Does anyone know if there are in implications removing the existing head unit such as the reversing camera etc. Im assuming I could fit a different Pioneer head unit and all would fit etc.

On the plus side the engine sounds fantastic. And the performance is more than enough for road use so I don't think Ill be looking to Tune the engine as originally planned. My brother in law has a V10 R8 he drove the car and was blown away by the handling and the cars experience. I had a 997.2 Carrera S before and the Lotus is much more fun to drive than that. For a weekend toy I don't think you will get much better than an Evora if you want 4 seats.

I doubt it I think it was more a case of the R8 was double the price but that's a completely different animal to be fair.

A few owners are fitting Android units, the Parrot Asteroid Smart is a popular choice.

Hi Steff

I have a Pioneer and found that setting the HPF (High pass filter) for the front speakers to 80Hz and setting sub LPF to 80 Hz helps.

But you need to make sure the Sub works, I have heard of a few which have never worked - mine did not (although I got my cat at 5k miles)

Spend some time setting the Pioneer unit up, most systems I have thought are poor turn out to simply be poorly set up (thankfully my wife is happy to sit there and set them all up).

The android units are nice but use old Android OS and there's little effort by manufacturers up provide updates.

The biggest issue with the Pioneer for me is radio tuning which seems epically hard to set stations.

I've started to get my head around the pioneer today and it sounds a little better. The settings that were on there were completely wrong for the system.

I'll wait another week and see how I get on with the audio. I find driving around town in sports mode is much better listening than the audio at the moment. The echo between buildings is outstanding smile

The head unit will need some setup time. Also the speakers will need to bed in time.

I have kept the head unit and changed to focal polyglass front speakers and fitted a genesis amp to drive a JL audio sub and the sound is epic. The latter is only really needed if you listen to a load of drum and base but the focal fronts work really well with the head unit. If you are doing them probably worth stiffening up the speaker mounts at the same time (I carbon wrapped mine but a glass mat would do the same job).

otherwise lucky man, bet she flys.

After another day of playing with the audio I've decided its coming out. Its the worst system I think I've listened to.

Its going in for an upgrade. What JL audio subs have you guys been using? I've been recommended Phass audio front speakers with a JL audio 5 channel amp. We aren't sure about the sub yet as its going to be limited to size.

Hi

I spend some time last night with a friend of mine who is a sound engineer with his own studio so knows a think or two about music and how it should sound.

We spend about an hour setting up the ICE and the final verdict on the Pioneer head unit is it is bloody good. The eQ is easy to use, no aliasing problems and little distortion at high gains. You can get better but we don't think this is where you should spend your money.

Below I have inserted the settings we came up with on the eQ. Once your speakers have bedded in I suggest you give this a go.

yours will be slightly different but this should be a starting point to play with.

As stated if you are going to change hardware then this is what I went for:

Focal Polyglass component fronts. The tweeters are slightly bigger diameter but the 6.5" fronts are a straight swap. However if you want good quality sound I suggest you stiffen up the door mounts and add some dynomat.

The sub I fitted is an 8" JL Audio. It does where the factory install is but it is bloody tight. However if you area careful you can get bang on the right volume and a very stiff install (the secret to a good sub install is installation stiffness, or so I have been told).

To drive this lot I put a Genesis 500w amp in the boot. It is a fuss to get all the wiring front to back but I managed it.

If you want any photos of the install let me know.

Also my friend has offered to setup peoples systems so if anyone in the Oxford area is interested let me know.

Now I just have to decide which I prefer the sound of, my new exhaust system or the ICE, usually I just end up with both turned up to 11 smile

cheers

Thanks Christian
Mine was set up a while ago, but following the work I just had done the battery was disconnected and the settings lost.
This will be a good place to start from!
Might be worth adding this to the Seloc Techwiki.

I had the same problem of loosing the settings when the battery was last disconnected.

The other point to watch out for is if you buy the car second hand and the previous buyer has set a password for the Pioneer head unit when the battery is disconnected (for some work etc) it will ask for the password the next time the unit is powered up. So if you buy an Evora take care to set the password on the head unit.

I got caught by this one. My battery was disconnected when I fitted a new amp and when I powered up the car again I could not find the password that had been set so had to drive to Hayes to get it reset, not ideal.

I will look into putting the pictures onto the Wiki if I can work it out!

cheers
