ROk. First of all being female, please keep you answers simple. Not cos I'm thick, I just don't understand electrics. I'm looking at buying an ERISIN ES8048v sat nav for my 2007 VW T5. It says the unit does not come with a canbus, but my T5 has one (as they were brought in 2005/6 to t5s). So the question, do I need a canbus adapter, and will this be the easiest method to connect it. I was hoping for just a plug and play fitting. The more I look into it the more scary it gets. Should I get an auto electrician to fit it? Thanks

Not heard of that sat nav - is it a VW thing? With regards to adaptors etc I normally use Connects2 - they should have what you need.

+1 for Connects2 - they will mosy likely have a plug and play harness for this. In the olden days we used to have three plates of spaghetti down the back of radios - one wire for ignition/accessory live, one for battery live, one for the nightime illumination, etc. CANBUS does away with this by sending data telling the radio/satnav what to do (eg ignition is on, switch on, etc).

For your vehicle, you will probably need a CANBUS Adapter if you want it to come on/off with ignition, the illumination to work OK etc. Also, not sure if it has steering wheel controls, but if so these will run off canbus.

You will also need to fix the satnav aerial somewhere.

Sounds like a one-off adapter to me. Try the contact email in the questions.
