Normally I go on a pre-christmas drive to Wales, but as money is a bit tighter I decided on Exmoor today. Its close to Wales anyway hehe

Being a grey and damp December day the roads were even quieter than my previous visit, I only saw one other vehicle between Countesbury Hill and the top of Porlock!

And just north of Simonsbath, before the fog and drizzle started to set in. Time to head home.

Glad you enjoyed it, the last one looks like Brandon gate.
My Dad is visiting so I am taking him out over the moor today despite the weather. The A396 Exe Valley road was fun last weekend due to long stretches of ice.

I will continue to test out some routes over the winter then maybe we can squeeze a PH run in before the tourist season?

I was on the run to Porlock and back a couple of times on Friday and Saturday.

Saw a PH'er in an S2000, shout out to that man.

Would like to go back and have a bit of an explore but was there on "business" so I didn't get a chance to hoon as much as I would have liked to.

It would be awesome to combine a day on exmoor with a day on the brecon beacons.

Maybe stay over somewhere Taunton'ish then head to stogumber taking in the goods bit of road past cpmbe sydenham then cut up onto exmoor?

Well i needed to give the jeep a good run and charge the battery up. so just done 99 miles from cothelstone onto exmoor and back.

Took the b3224 just after bishops lydeard, wheddon cross, exford, simonsbath over the moor and down to watersmeet then back the same way apart from a detour to dunkery beacon which was stupid as it was foggy and raining and it added on mileage.

Average speed was a very unpistonheads there was a lot of standing water around I wouldn't really of wanted to of been up there in something sporty and light today.

It was a bit murky when I went over the top last week, in weather like that try something low lying like the A396 Exe Valley but be beware of slippery stretches.

I really need to put my dash cam in next time.

I should get up there more often as I'm only 10 mins from 3224.

Do you ever get onto the quantocks? There's some good roads there that climb up over the Quantocks and drop you off down in Bridgewater.

yes - http://www.somerset.gov.uk/roads-parking-and-trans... - click on the .pdf symbol to see the Order and the diversion map.
The B3224/B3190 between Wheddon Cross and Raleigh's Cross won't be much fun for a while unless you get up early on a Sunday.
