No, this is not another compare watches to cars thread... wink

But I have noted a tendency of people taking a photo of their watches whilst sitting inside their cars with the logo on the steering wheel in the background.

Seriously, what's that all about? confused

I would never dream of taking a picture of any of my Omegas with the Volvo logo in the background biggrin

Grateful if anyone can clarify the watches/cars pictures. Is it because this is a car forum?

Yours in ignorance...

Would be more interesting if it were a thread containing images of top line watches with bottom rung cars. For example:

18ct Patek sat on the sun-faded dash of a Yugo or an AP inside the rusted engine bay of an old Lancia.

We could have it set up so you have to guess the st car. Have the watch photographed in an obscure place on or in the car!

I have mocked this too. It really is quite sad.

I think it's hilarious. Maybe an 'al qaeda' casio with a RR Phantom would be a good combo?! Or maybe when I eventually get my Blancpain back from the menders, I can take a pic of it in my mum's dented Skoda!

Not sure what needs clarification? Or why you would be grateful for it, and in what way?

Why post a picture of a watch in any context unless it's purely for help? Why talk about a watch unless you need help otr advice with it? Then why are you on here if you only want a bone-dry help forum - this place doesn;t seem to be just for help, it's a discussion and sharing board, or at least it seems that way to me. People on here love cars, people on here love watches. Yet it pains you to see them in the same photo..?

It's a bit of fun and yes, it's a watch sub forum on a car forum! smile

Not sure where the 'it's sad' stuff comes from..?

/AFAIK I have never done it (may have done an Aston/AMOVOX shot?), but why is it more acceptable to post a picture of my watch at my desk? Or is that just as bad/sad?

Seems I need clarification as to the problem?

The awful watches and car (steering wheel) photo is thankfully only usually a Rolex/Porsche owner thing. It's about getting your brands together in one photo in an 'I've arrived way.' hehe

No you didn't but it is sad though. You see it a lot on the American watch forums, mainly Rolex. Certainly not just a PHs thing.

Was about to say this too. I also frequent one of the main US Rolex forum and this watch/steering wheel photo activity is rife.

F40 and AP? wink

There seem to be a lot of Omega and BMW shots, too.

Must photograph one of my Seikos with my Mazda biggrin

It's a bit of a tired old cliché, though isn't it?

More luck than judgement that I didn't fall foul of this faux pas when posting my first pictures earlier.

Thought it was just me thinking how contrived the whole watch and dashboard thing is - not that I've got anything suitable for an automotive photoshoot anyway.

It's no more contrived than a picture of a watch on a wrist with a beige carpet in the background and some Ikea furniture. It's a pic of a watch which gives us all an idea of how one looks in real life. I'm failing to see the issue. There are pictures of people with diving watches diving and aviator watches in cockpits yet they don't come under the same ridicule for some reason on this forum.
