After a weekend of pretty mixed weather, who came off there bike and what was the outcome?
I was out riding at Stainburn and I have done a classic knee/frame coming together with a resulting very swollen and painful knee. 2nd time in a month so it was already tender! Knees are so delicate it doesn't seem to take much to cause me a lot of pain, so I'm ordering some knee/shin gaurds today.
My mate managed to clip a tree with his shoulder and slip off a northshore style log, which he then greeted with his face so he's looking a rather swollen today too.
Comes witht he territory I guess, especially when ones ambition exceeds their ability! That being said, I came off because I was front wheel braking as I went over a rock section, a rookie error!

I came off Friday morning on my way to work... wet corner with freshly cut grass on the cycle path que my front wheel washing out and the bike tumbling over me and having to unclip as I stopped rolling.
Forearms look like I've taken a cheese grater to them and my ribs are killing! Feels like I'm being shot when I sneeze!

A few weeks ago I was messing around on the local BMX race track, the second jump being about a 15-20 foot gap so a fair bit of speed needed, cocked it up, threw the bike away and landed on the landing, on my side. Plenty of gravel rash from the bearing mind the track is literally made of gravel, so I know how you feel!Forearms look like I've taken a cheese grater to them and my ribs are killing! ETA I think my problems come from not having ridden for 8 years, and expecting to come back and do the same stuff I used to straight away!

Ouch, gravel rash down your whole side sounds mighty painful!ETA I think my problems come from not having ridden for 8 years, and expecting to come back and do the same stuff I used to straight away!
Plus, it appears the older we get the longer it takes to recover, no more bouncing straight back on!

It wasn't as bad as it sounds tbh, the worst was my arms which wasn't covered as I was wearing short sleeves. The rest of me got away with light grazing. It did sting though Plus, it appears the older we get the longer it takes to recover, no more bouncing straight back on!
I'm pretty risk averse, but I do like to kane the descents if I have a good view, sometimes once you start moving you cant really slow down, especially on greasy 12% + descents with 23c tyres on and the rain! I remember going down a hill last year and having my whole life flash before me, road was like ice in the rain and a strong cross wind, I had to lock my knees to the top tube to try and keep the bike straight! A week later a fellow cyclist died on the same hill.
Worst crash in recent memory was when me and my mate locked bar ends years ago on a downhill on the London to Brighton @ 30 mph, we both went to get apart and both handlebars went 90 degrees, I went down on gravel, my mate in a ditch.....messy. 1 rider behind then crashed into our bikes! I had to do the rest of the ride (40 miles) with not much skin on my arms and 10mph max due to the state of my front wheel

On the road bike it's obvious that offs are less frequent that us MTB'ers, but when they do happen it's usually pretty bad!Worst crash in recent memory was when me and my mate locked bar ends years ago on a downhill on the London to Brighton @ 30 mph, we both went to get apart and both handlebars went 90 degrees, I went down on gravel, my mate in a ditch.....messy. 1 rider behind then crashed into our bikes! Riding with a couple of friends along a fairly exposed scarp slope (8" wide track, 50degree scree slope above/below) and my mate catched a pedal, wobbles, and basically pretty much rides straight off the side!
Luckily, somehow he managed to grab a large boulder to catch himself, and the bike got caught up in his legs, so we didn't have to do a 500m slide down the slope to rescue it (or him!)
Slightly bruised knee for him, that's it. Quite lucky.........

I had my first off on Saturday. Riding downhill in the wet. Sharp corner at the bottom. I think the back end bounced a little on the uneven road and the bike just went. Slid on my hip for 10 ft until I hit the kerb.
Adrenaline got me the extra 10 miles home. Road Rash on my left hip. Neck ache for the last 2 days!

Wet weather riding at Dalby Forest, came around a corner flying like you would in the dry, rear wheel catches slick rock and slides to the left,**cue large dip straight after the corner**, went to manual the dip came short and front wheel lands dead in the middle. As a result me flying face first (arms out) down the rocks. Grazed arms and knees for days. Err sticky!! Still a good ride after that

Not me but my riding buddy came off at Gisburn at the weekend, was only riding about 45 minutes when it happened, and its a 2 hour drive each way! Broken scaphoid so will be off the bike for a few months I would imagine
Wasn't one of the wood sections was it? Gisburn was properly slippy at the weekend!Currently Sat reading this with a heavily bruised and swolllen leg post accident that was over 2 weeks ago. Seems the rain washed my landing out, was alright 5 days previous.Smashed into a tree at 18mph and I've sprained int and ext knee ligaments and also may have form the meniscus. Have to see doc tomorrow for MRI referral soon as. Need to be fixed soon as off to Afghan in Sept.

No, we got through home baked and the rest of the lower loop fine, it was on the top loop where it opens up just after the quarry area. It was the first time he had ridden there, I said 'go for it, it's good this bit'. Got to the first flat corner, somehow managed to high side it and fell onto his wrist! Oops...Had a fairly long walk/one handed ride on the fireroads back to the carpark for some sympathy cake and a hot choc, and I had to change gear all the way back as he was driving!
Shame, Gisburn is great!
ETA: He's only just recovered from a cracked rib too, this was his second ride out. He's also just built a Santa Cruz Bullit DH bike too which hasn't been ridden yet, looks like I'll be testing it out while he's on the mend
I took my hardtail out for a change and to practise jumping. Headed over to a few jumps in woods near me where local kids have built up some ramps. Progressively got braver went higher, longer and generally feeling confident, happy with myself and decided call it that head home for coffee and be proud of how I still know what I am doing.
Pedalled off, as I continued on the trail I spy a few roots forming a natural ramp, excellent, time to put the practise to work.
Accelerated well, good line lifted the bike as it caught the first root then, hmm not sure what happened exactly.
I landed with a very solid thump, rattling my teeth in my head and taking the breath from me as my hip came into contact with a lot more roots and solid ground.
I was about 2 metres from the bike, which was now lieing on it's side front wheel facing where I started from.
Bike was fine no damage, I of course checked that first then started counting the injury points, tender areas on me and any blood that needing mopping up.
I think some of the roots caught the front wheel sending me forwards, not sure entirely but I did manage a more sedate lift once I was back on my bike. Lesson on knowing what I am jumping over, and landing on before going full tilt seems a good one.
I'm sure I have tried to learn that lesson once or twice before.
Bruising on my hip was impressive, started from just under my belt to the top of my knee and you could see the pattern of the stitching and zips from my shorts in the different colours of the bruise over the next month or so it took to go away.

Thought I'd bump this to sulk in self pity...
At the local BMX race track, having some fun on the Stanton MTB, last run of the day (it always is isn't it!) and I decide to take a pumpier, faster line rather than just jumping the lot. End up hitting a jump way too fast, clearing the landing and going arse over tit on the gravely concrete surface. Massive bruising on my hip, gravel rash up my back, arm and shoulder and a grade 2 seperation of my RHS acromioclavicular joint. BALLS. My shoulder have taken a lot of punishment over 15 years of extreme sports, with 3 broken collar bones and not two snapped ligaments.

Close one tonight in heavy drizzle in the pitch dark on the road through Runnymede this evening. The rear wheel caught the side of a double length man-hole cover where the edge was slightly raised - front wheel carried on in a straight line but the rear wheel/frame was at a 30' angle to the bars by the time I cleared it! Thankfully managed to stay upright but gave me a worrying second or two!
There was quite a bad crash on a group ride last weekend in part down to a wet road, huge pot-holes combined with half wheeling and someone braking hard in a group - hence the reason I spend most of the time on the front on group rides!!
