Golf sized 4x4

As we might be buying a new house thats at the top of an ungritted hill and then down a farm track im thinking about replacing the other half golf.

She wants a "suv" thats simalar size to her golf ideally 5 door as she has a grandkid now and one that you can get your shopping in. I was thinking of a qashqai 4wd but not a yeti as she doesnot like them.

Budget 5k - 7.5k

Any ideas ?

Means i might get rid of my xtrail and get a swb shogun for shooting and carrying the dogs about

Jeep Patriot is that sort of size, maybe look at Suzuki SX4 too?

The mk2 golf country is maybe a bit old, looking for up to 7 years or so.

As for the suzuki sx4 the boot is tiny at 270 litres where as the mk5 golf is 350.

Was very impressed with the Mitsubishi ASX when I had one as a courtesy car. They do them in 4x4.

If a proper off roader's not required how about a golf 4motion? Majority in your price range will be the mk4 V5 but you could also consider the Passat which was available as a diesel with 4wd if you're after economy.

MINI COUNTRYMAN, Vauxhall MOKKA, Mitsubitshi ASX all just out of budget

And for me if i get shot of the x-trail as we dont need 2 big cars are - SWB shogun, 3 door grand vitara, 3 door rav4

I used to have the Daihatsu Terios / Toyota equivalent here in Jakarta, the 1500cc Toyota Rush. Although it was only RWD I would suggest that the earlier suggestion of the Terios is a good one. Plenty of room inside, more than a Golf and not a particularly big car.
I understand that the typical model in the UK is 4WD and Jeremy Clarkson certainly enjoyed himself in it with the fox & hounds chase a few years ago.

Another suitable option would be the RAV 4, a little bit quicker I believe, I know when I've borrowed Mother's Rav4 it certainly manages to achieve 100 mph whereas the RWD Auto Rush, foot to the floor for about 10 minutes (new and empty toll road over here) would not go over 157 km/h.

Unless the farm track is really really bad then buy a golf

We are fine where we are and we have 1/2 a mile of farm track and 5 miles before we see a road that has ever seen a gritter
