Penny Dreadful

I've got my fingers crossed, all set up to record on sky+. I think the quality of TV series has really shot up in the last few years from breaking bad, game of thrones, the walking dead etc. Hoping this will be of similar quality, might just be too much dark fantasy to reach a real broad audience.

After just 2 episodes this has proved riveting.
Only complaint so far was Ms Green's acting straight out of Casino Royal.

I only watched one episode and thought it was one of the worst things I had ever seen.
A bizarre hybrid between teenage vampire flick, a period drama with really cringeworthy twists as they shamelessly try to shoe-horn different supernatural characters into it.
I hated it quite passionately and sat there aghast as each 10 minutes somehow managed to be worse than the preceding 10 minutes.

I enjoyed it - but then, I do enjoy a lot of crap when it comes to this sort of stuff..
To me, it was almost like an adult version of The League of Extraordinary Gentleman.
GOod analogy, although I don't really know why you think its and 'adult version'. Is it just the blood and guts element? To me, it was almost like an adult version of The League of Extraordinary Gentleman.
I think that is why I hated it so much. It pretended to be an adults thing when it was just a childrens thing with more blood.
Had it been a pg certificate and I had watched it with the children I would have probably found it tolerable (if a bit silly and dull)

Yes, viscerals and profanity - take those away, you have a standard fare movie of the likes I mentioned, plus Van Helsing etc...I think that is why I hated it so much. It pretended to be an adults thing when it was just a childrens thing with more blood.
