Carrera GT, why V-10, not a flat-10 ?

Why is the Porsche Carrera GT using a V10 motor,
Why not build a flat 10 motor ?
space - V shaped engines take up less space. A flat-10 would be enormous.
Plus the engine already existed didn't it? Aborted sportscar engine I believe....
