Trolley-jack time...

My vaguely prehistoric Halfords trolley jack has finally given up the ghost - the screw to release the pressure and lower it has stripped it's thread. Yes, I could probably try and find a replacement, but...

So - what to get? Budget is far from unlimited. It'll get a reasonable amount of use, and ideally have a decent lift. I don't really want anything lower than 2t capacity. Any recommendations or avoids?

Another vote for Machine Mart. I keep one of these (plus an axle stand) in my Range Rover Classic:

No problems jacking up the corner for wheel change etc & a lot safer than scissor or bottle jacks.
I do have a full size one in the garage for heavier use - although I tend to use the little one as its easier to cart about!

Finally ordered it yesterday PM, and it's here already. Yes, via UKMail - but even that was utterly painless.

First impressions are VERY positive. It looks like a nicely made bit of kit. The pivoting liftyhandlebit is a nice idea, but feels a tad loose - we'll see how that pans out, it doesn't feel scarily so.

Which one did you go with in the end and how has it been?

Few months on with the 3T SGS garage jack and it's absolutely fantastic - well made, lifts high, quickly and I can't fault it at all. Heavy - very heavy but it is put to use in a workshop almost exclusively.

I wouldn't like to need to carry it around, mind. Definitely get a lighter one for that.

I'm looking at this 2.5 Ton aluminium one but there seem to be quite a few options from various brands at that price point.

Went with the Draper 31481 in the end, solely as the Arcan one was out of stock and had been discontinued by Costco when I went to go buy it.

2 tonne limit. Entry height of 70mm and max of 500mm. Double pistons, takes around 12 pumps to get to max with my car. A tad heavy but well put together.

I went with the 2T Low Profile, no case, and I'm happy so far.

My 3T SGS jack has developed a very slow leak... their support department are sending me a set of seals to renew them in the hope it'll sort it.

It's put through fairly heavy use so I'm not too disappointed, just hope it does fix it!

Has taught me that I need a second (at least) jack though..... so I'm on the lookout again. Probably something lighter this time rather than just another of the same.
