Not sure if everyone follows the "TVR in USA" threads, some very interesting developments appear to be afoot (if they prove to be true).

In the interest of engaging the views of the wole forum (informed or otherwise ):

Mclaren cars are going to take over/amalgamate. Peter Wheeler is going to be taking more of a back seat until control is eventually relinquished. All production will 'eventually' cease in Blackpool as the factory in Brazil takes over. As far as I am aware the TVR engines are to be properly developed and the cars will also see the dramatic benefit of investment. M power is not a choice that I am aware of. The new 'company' will aim at the higher end of the market and compete directly with other supercar makers. To be compatable with the US market the cars will have to change.

Yep, the same rumour has been doing 'the rounds' for a couple of years now. Apparantly Ron Dennis is so impressed with TVR's standard of build quality and engine development facilities that he wants to transfer all Formula One R&D to Bristol Avenue by the start of the 2003 season. Production of road-going TVRs will have to be switched to a suitable location - how about Brazil?

I wonder if a speed six engined F1 McLaren would get further than Rubens Ferrari

Creighton Brown is the driving force behind the establishment of South American Sportscars, the venture that plans/planned to build Tuscans under licence in Brazil (and build a race track and various other side-lines).

His part in the venture to the best of my knowledge was a personal one and not as a representative of McLaren.

It's been some time since I've had any new info on the venture but it was still alive a few months ago when they were looking to finish the funding rounds. Perhaps that funding hasn't been forthcoming. I don't know.

TVR couldn't make a garden wheelbarrow without the handle falling off! You couldn't conceivably imagine McLaren wanting to be associated with TVR's!
Don't get me wrong, I love my TVR, but I certainly didn't buy the thing for it's build quality! This has to be a wind up!

P.S. Loved the quote about Ferrari and Rubens!

Fairy Nuff. The poster I quoted cross-posted on a number of the threads the same piece & as I said elsewhere, one of 2 situations is true:

(1) he has real knowledge (however unlikely it might sound)
(2) he's trolling because in his only other post to the forum he's pissed off that the chassis on his Chimarea is falling to bits.

But havent McLaren just built the state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Surrey for the new Merc/Mc car? The one that is costing them MILLIONS to build - why the hell then spend money buying TVR and move manufacture to Brazil....

Daft - Internet rumours are the best arent they? Seen the one about Bill Gates giving you $30,000 for forwarding an email.... Utter trash.

Cheers,

Paul

yup, they have just built a facility outside woking, with testing facilities. The Lads tha used to go the gym (when I was fit) that worked for Maclaran said it was going to be one hell of a set-up, so I would e surprised if they moved to Brasil.

I can remember seeing in Autocar that Mclaren had bought two Cerberas to use as mules for the development of the front engined Mercedes. It said that they wanted to incorporate the spirit of the cerbera into their new car.Apparently as they had never built a front engined car before they decided to mimic the TVR.It was in Autocar so it must be true!

The copy of AutoCar that I read on the subject quoted McLaren stating that the only reason they used a Cerbera as the mule was because of similar engine / drivetrain layout, size, configuration, etc., and that readers should not read any more into it than that.
