As far as I am aware your speed limit list is correct.

Wouldn't be straightforward if they were the same whatever you drove?

56 mph (90kph) on motorways, 50 mph on dual carriageway, 40 mph on single carriageway and watch your height as many new trucks are taller than the older ones , ours are 3.8 mtr tall.

Really? In a 7.5 tonne lorry?

I thought it was 60 > 7.5 tonne, and 70 < 7.5 tonne.

Nope.

Limit is 70 on motorway. Immaterial as restricted. No outer lane use in a 3 or more lane road.
Limit is 60 on a DC. Again immaterial
Limit is 50 single.

https://www.gov.uk/speed-limits

Highway Code Rule 264 for middle/outside lane hoggers
Rule 265 for speed limiter equipped vehicles, implying that say, older horse-boxes and large RV's can use the outside lane.

Old pre restricted stuff, as per the speed limits link, you can still barrel along at 70 & use the outer lane.

Speed limiter fitted = 56 max and no outer lane of motorway with 3 or more lanes
No limiter fitted = 70 max and can use all lanes

Cool, I want sure on the outside lane bit as I've not seen a 7.5 tonner in the outside lane for ages..

so as long as its dead flat or down hill i can use the outside lane to overtake the MLM's great..

my 814 is old enough not to be restricted and will crack 80 on the flat, but grinds to a halt on the slightest incline, the sleeper cab, 26ft box and 1.5ton tail lift dont help lol...

sodding thing is almost 6 tons empty.

My old eurocargo recovery truck was a flyer , I had to ride the exhaust brake to keep it near the 70 limit on downhill motorway sections .

Our 04 isuzu nqr was unrestricted initially. That used to motor, hated the day I had to fit a limiter!

the law still says 40/50/60 mph or 50/60/70 mph depending MAM
But as it's over 3.5 t it's subject to the speed limiter requirements, which are EU so specified in KMH ...

the UK was out of step with much of the rest of europe with respect to 'large vans ' ... but equally do we really want to go back to 7.5 tonners being accessible from passing a test in a 1 l supermini ?

Especially as modern 7.5 tonners are bigger physically than the old HGV 3's(that shows my age)

they are no bigger or no smaller than they used to be ... the main difference now is that the average modern 7.5tonner is running with 15-180 bhp which in the 80s was deemed sufficient for a 16 tonner HGV3

Plenty of nineties 18 tonne vehicles had to make do with 180bhp! It concerns me to see these 7.5 tonne vans driven around by people with grandfathered rights. They have always been the worse-driven lorries on the road and the extra speed makes them more of a liability.

DCPC in theory restricts the numbers of GF rights people driving 7.5 tonners, but it still won't stop the horse boxes / race transporters or where you can find a (back street) rental place that will rent 7.5 tonners without sight of O-licence, DCPC card, tacho card and settign up an account ...

but otherwise we are stuck with GF rights until 2049 or so ...
