Amazon Fire TV / XBMC
Discussion
My little hiccough last night was down to the output HDMI cable becoming slightly dislodged when I plugged the Fire TV in. Once re-seated properly, it all worked fine again.
The Fire happily download its firmware updates and just worked. I didn't even have to mess around with WiFi because I have wired Ethernet to the AV Amp, BD player, and the like (I have a 5-port Ethernet switch there) so it was a simple matter of connecting the Fire to the switch for instant wired internet.
Also, it seems to have been pre-registered to my Amazon Prime account by Amazon, so I didn't even need to log in. How convenient.

Ok fixed. Very impressed with the Amazon customer services on this. they listen to what I had done and clearly were not just script monkeys. After a few days back and forth it seems that the BT Homehub has a feature call Smart Set up. The FTV won't work with this (at the moment) switched it off and it connected first time.
Can anyone recommend a DLNA app for the Fire TV? There are several to choose from (and none free by the look of it).
I have a load of music and videos on my NAS, which is also running a DLNA server. So I either need a DLNA client for the Fire TV or else an app that will let it connect directly to my NAS which is running a Windows share via Samba. Doesn't have to be a Windows share though - I can share up in Mac or Linux formats too if needed.

How is everyone getting on? After my initial problems (which were not directly Amazons fault) it's been pretty good. One slight hitch with Netflix not playing any content back but a re-install fixed that.
I've now got xbmc installed and it works very well indeed, the only issue being it's a faff to start it. I think I've found a couple of options on that front one being a sacrificial app and the other being it auto starting/default app. I think I favour the later as you can launch all the Amazon apps from within xbmc and that works really well.

the split screen for gaming was soon dismissed after I learned its not supported so had to send one controller back... what an oversight but further reinforces why the unit is mainly focused on the movies side of things
