The T56 is in the car and modified LS7 manifolds are on. My workshop asked me how other modders deal with the safety for the reverse gear. He told me that the safety is activated electronically over a solenoid. Do others use this or do they change to something mechanically?

Not many of the LS brigade can help here as we only have 5 speeds, BoostedCerb should be able to help here.

:/ Asking that as a generic retro install question up at the ls1tech gearbox forum might also be option?

Hope you get an answer soon.

On mine I am wiring it to the brake lights so when I stop on the brakes I can then select reverse.

I know to 2 cars that this works with no problems and its easy to do.

on the 6 speed it is relatively easy to select reverse inadvertently.

I've used the standard GM solenoid for reverse lock out.on t56 in griff and 6060 in tam

if you are using a GM ECU there is normally an option that this is configured to open only when at nil speed, but you of course need the speedo to be wired to the ECU to do that.

I've wired mine to operate with the brake lights, so i can only select reverse with the brakes on. I've wired both the tam and griff like that with no issues.

some people fit a dash switch that you hit to select ref verse, but i think i would find that a bit of a faff.

Yes, i do not want a switch. My workshop is going to look if it can be wired so it operates at nil speed. I also found a thread on the ls forum where they converted the solenoid in a mechanical safety. Brakelights is an option.

I've got a TR 6060 with a push button on the steering column cowl near the ignition switch, works really well right hand for the button left for the stick. I would be concerned about using the bake lights in a heel and toe downshift but the nil speed should be ok

you can replace the solenoid with a strong spring mechanisem. that means needing effort for reverse more then 5/6. it works but i didnt like it much
