For a litlle project I would like to brake down a Ka steering column.

I want to take out the hexagonal bar out of the tube and also would like to remover the steering lock mechanismfrom the tube.

Only thing I managed so for was to take out the ignition barrel.

I remember disassembleing a Fiest a Mk3 colum and the tube slided right out, so did the steering lock mechanism.

Can somebody help me please? The Ka column is largely the same as a Fiesta Mk4 or Mazda 121.

Dont think you can do it on PAS enabled columns. I know you certainly can only buy a UJ for the non PAS column.

Finally got the nerve to put this thing under a press.

It' the tolerance ring that keeps the shaft together. The ring is a push on/never to come off ring so when you try to separate the collar of the ring shears of.

I've found that earlier tolerance rings are a bit different. Earlier types of ring have a vertical split on the side. they are pushed on but can be removed afterwards if needed. These rings are used on shafts that have a trench machined into the shaft.

Fiesta Mk3 columns are identical but the don't have the trench. The tolerance ring just slides over the tube. When removing the steering wheel the shaft is able to slide down.

But like said, on the newer steering columns you can't get parts, you have to buy the complete column.
