OK so my dealer tells me that all cars were sold by 11am on the Monday. And I got one!

I went for white with black roof, red wheels, nuerburgring pack (price to be confirmed), the satnav/data logging thing, climate control, reversing camera. Maybe a couple of other things.

There is some discount available if you pay cash.

Nice spec, pretty much what I'd have gone for, though perhaps not the reversing camera

Ha, amazing
I have 2 dealers who had assured me I could have one as of yesterday evening.

The regular Trophy is the one for me though and I think it always would have been the choice

Ironic as the R26R was a real struggle to sell for 2/3 the price and there were only 125 or so of those.
Not really. The only reason they struggled to sell, is because it was launched just after the biggest financial crash in 100 years.

True enough but it was a very uncompromising thing. Yes the 2 seats seem to be the biggest factor but its the Harness only, no radio, no soundproofing and pretty extreme seats that make it such an unsuitable car as a daily.

The new R more cleverly positions itself. 2 seats certainly but Recaro pole positions are leather trimmed and entirely usable and there's 3 pt belts and all the toys available if you want them.

But only 30 means strong residuals for sure.

I dithered and I didn't get one which has left me cursing but assuaged by the Trophy 275 in LY with Ohlins, Turinis and Cups thats coming instead. smile

I've been lucky and secured one - initially I was go for the exact record spec, now I'm wondering about adding Radio/aircon.

Went up the hill at Goodwood in it, from the passenger seat the car felt so alive - mind you Laurent (the driver who broke the record) was on it! He have me great insight into the cars development and what it offers..

Interested to know what discounts are on offer?
Also went up the hill with Laurent, great chap I thought, and 11 years as the main test driver with Renaultsport makes him responsible for a list of some of finest drivers cars of the last decade.

Personally, if I'd not dithered i'd have added climate and sounds and probably not the Ring pack extras. I was offered £1760 off the price of an R and double that off a regular Trophy.

So adding back on the Ohlins, Wheels and Liquid Yellow paint for the original list price essentially.

I would probably have gone for the White and red wheels if it was an R but I reckon the red graphics from the R would look good on the liquid yellow

Am I massively out of touch with car prices now or something?
No, I like to think that car prices are massively out of touch with us cash buyers. I reckon 90% of all Golf Rs are financed.
One of the massive downsides of the easy credit disease is the ability to push through price rises with relative ease.

Enjoy you lucky few people. Already up 1500 miles in my Trophy and its as brilliant as you'd hope.
100kg less with less soundproofing would be even better but not sure about the red on yellow now I've seen both. Liquid Yellow is such a fantastic colour and really iconic on a fast Renault I'd have definitely chosen that even in an R but the grey works better as a contrast colour i think

I really love the new wheels.

Enjoy it, I'm still hammering my 250 Cup around the place - it's staying put with me for quite a while! Great car for a cross country blast.

Got it! Picked up this afternoon.

Hmmm. Its nice. Looks amazing - much better than pics.

Drives really nicely compared to my somewhat breathed upon R26.r.

Civilised. Very refined suspension.

Not had to chance to get anywhere near pushing it.
