My brother has one and mainly does short journeys and gets mid to late 50s. Strange because I have a 2010 gen 3 prius and I nailed it this morning being late and it still got 68.8mpg. I normally get over 70mpg over my 25 mile commute. But it is the ideal route, mostly 40-50mph.
If I do short trips less than 3 miles it rarely goes over 55mpg. It can do 80mpg under 40mph but the next trip it needs to redo the battery and this drops to 60 odd mpg.

After having the Outlander PHEV demo car over 3 days, and finding the fuel consumption very poor on the kind of journeys that I regularly do, I've ordered an Auris Hybrid. Touring Sports, Excel trim, metallic red and with a panoramic roof.
Rather looking forward to getting it. It may not be an exciting or fun car, but then neither is my diesel Passat, and the Toyota proved so much more refined and comfortable to drive, as well as vastly cheaper to tax, and to fuel, and in company car contributions - overall I should be well over £200 a month better off just by changing to the Auris.
Got to spend it on something, of course, so hi ho hi ho, off to Autotrader I go...

Mine came on Tuesday. Happy with it so far, put about 300 miles on it with another 550 to come over the weekend. Obviously its early days but fuel consumption is looking to be in the high 50's on average, which is good enough for me.
The seat hurt me a little yesterday, but I need to play with the adjustment a little I think.
So far I'm pleased with it, it does what I want, and is the estate version so I've enough room in the boot for overnight bags, tools etc.

That's good to know. I'm pleased enough with motorway mpg in the 50's, and as the car has less than 300 miles on the clock, hopefully that will improve over time.
If I can get 500 - 550 miles from the tiny fuel tank too, that'd be a bonus. At the moment it's looking like it might be a bit of a challenge, but we shall see.

The Auris tank capacity is 45 litres I think, same as the Prius, a hair under 10 gallons, so 550 miles should be on.
That said, on our Prius the range remaining computer and low fuel warning light are set up to make you progressively more uncomfortable after about 450 miles, so that's usually the point where I fill up. Of course, then it'll only take less than eight gallons and I feel as if I could have gone further.

I have a round trip to Edinburgh tomorrow/Sat, it'll be a good little test I reckon 
To be fair, I don't mind if it can't do it on a full tank, I just like to be able to get to all the venues I travel to and back on a single fill. Edinburgh/Glasgow are the only two that push it a bit, Dundee/Aberdeen each require a top up but it's not that big a deal.
It's nice to be putting unleaded in a car again, makes a change having something different to smell at the pump, not that I dislike the smell of diesel though, but don't tell anyone

Good to hear Mo. I too look forward to dispensing with the oily hands and grim smell from filling up with diesel.
Hope you can sort the seats out. I found the demo car's seats very comfortable, but then again I'm used to the oddly-angled spinal torture instruments fitted to the Passat. If you want you can borrow the damned thing, your seats will seem like Lay-Z-Boy recliners after that!

It's probably not the car's fault, my back's been aching on long trips since I stayed in a Premier Inn about 5 weeks ago, slept badly and woke with backache thanks to the soft bed. The Skoda started hurting me recently too, so I'm blaming Premier Inn
It's something that'll probably clear up on its own, although a bit of messing with the seat will keep me amused for a while.

You dont use the gloves they provide at the garage? Topped the tank off this morning, ready for this afternoon's 280 mile jaunt. Indications are that the car's computer is quite possibly the most accurate I've ever used, it appears to be within a few decimal places of reality. Time will tell over a longer term average and a few fills, but it's looking ok so far. I don't want to tempt fate too much, but the average so far over the first 300 miles has been 58 mpg.
Hopefully it's not a one off or a fluke. It's around 9 mpg better than the Skoda, which makes the cash savings all the more worthwhile. Not only is it going to pay the running costs on my old Disco V8 (obviously!), but it's going to help bolster my motorbike fund too!

Well it has been quite a wait - car was ready for me to swap to 3 weeks ago but I have been in Asia for work and apparently due to the way the accounts are done, I couldn't collect this week - so it's my last weekend in the over-priced poverty spec disAstra and into the leather clad white Auris. It's still a bit of a fridge, I know, but it'll be a much nicer place to spend my commute, and I it'll save me a supercharger-for-the-tvr every year in running costs. Win Win!
I've had mine for just over 3 weeks, ticked over 1,500 miles a couple of days ago. I'm really pleased with it so far, it just gets on with the task of being transport without any fuss. Average MPG to date is a real 55, or 58 indicated, although it's improving by the week. Running costs are around 10 - 11 pence per mile so far.,
There are two minor issues: the seat gives me backache if I sit straight and upright for more than an hour, but if I slouch, it's fine and I can go all day. The other is that the steering wheel is curiously lifeless, I've found myself looking at the dash, or even in the mirrors, and wandered off course, without sensing anything through the wheel. It handles well enough, and with almost no body roll, but there's a lack of feel through the wheel. This is me coming from a Skoda, and a Volvo before that, neither of which had sharp, sensitive steering.
Other than that though, it's a good car. One of those that slip below the radar, very few people seem to consider them as an alternative to the usual suspects, but in my view it's a strong contender, and a nice alternative to something diesel, even though historically I've been a bit of a diesel fan.

Running a 2006 lexus GS450H for the last 18 months and its just passed 150k. I get 31mpg in summer and 29 in winter. Runs are mainly skirting around the edge of birmingham to work with M42 and a few DC thrown in. Love the car but when i add depreciation, tax, service, mot, tyres, mpg over the 12k miles i do a year its costing me over £300pm. And at 150k miles im worried it could eat my wallet any day!
So couple of qu - how do you go about getting a extended test drive - dealer or head office number? Anyone got one on personal lease?

We were all given 24hr test drive cars by Toyota so the dealers should still have these taxed up. Just give your local dealer a call and they should be able to arrange an extended test drive.
