springs and ride height

My question is what determines the ride height on the front suspension. Is it the springs or the strut.

I ask because I fitted some used suspension assembleys to the front of my car and now the car ride height at the front is way out. the gap between the tyre and the wheel arch is double what it was

if its the springs that make the difference then I can just replace these with my old ones but if its the struts then I will need to buy new.

Have you measured the distance from the wheel centre (stub axle) to the spring seat on both struts? I don't know the answer to your question but that comparison should shed some light.

Springs determine the height.

finally got round to dealing with this ride height issue. I changed the springs to the original ones and hey presto everything is back to the right height again.

looks like the ones I had on were a stiffer spring probably not for my model and so they were not compressing as much as the originals.
