I'd say Greaves was on his own as by far the most natural English goal scorer of the modern (post war) era, followed by Lineker & then Owen.
Lineker was just a goal poacher (albeit a good one!!)RichB said:

Re George Best, it's difficult to judge him as a great when his career was effectively over at 25.
He was 28 when he left ManU and 30 when playing at Fulham. I guess one had to have watched him live...TwigtheWonderkid said:
I did say "effectively over". The booze took hold after that and the rest of his career was the odd flash of brilliance but living off past glories. I saw him playing for Hibs and he was nothing special then.
Let's agree to disagree - however I will say that watching him play for Hibs would hardly have been representative of his abilities so don't form your opinion of him based on that. zygalski said:

Agree with that. 44 England goals in only 57 appearances - amazing strike rate, and he is still England's leading hat-rick scorer with SIX international hat-ricks.
Did pretty good driving in the 1970 World Cup Rally as well

They all looked pretty bad tbf.
Granted Estonia are nowt special but there were some good performances tonight, Walcott and Barkley stood out for me, especially Barkley (I am biased). To hear the pundits knocking him for his mistakes after playing like that makes me despair for English football, we just don't know how to handle players like him. They all looked pretty bad tbf.

He's only 21, I really hope he pushes on and fulfils his potential.
