Kitchen Lighting
Discussion
Hi, After a bit of advice on kitchen lighting. Have the electrician coming round this afternoon to discuss, but would like some opinions first.
We have a new kitchen being built which is approx 5.5m x 5.5m. The general agreement around here is that the ecoled Zep 1s are great lights. Any thoughts on how many lights would be required in this space, or how much space should be between each light?
Thinking about using LED tape around the kick boards, and underneath the wall cupboards, again the ecoled stuff looks good. How many drivers are required if I need 6 separate runs to get around the whole kitchen.
Also thinking about hooking this lot up to some kind of controller, maybe Lutron Grafik Eye QS. Any of our resident experts comment on its suitability, really want to be able to dim everything, but most importantly, I want to be able to reprogram it when we realise its all too bright!
Thanks

Our new kitchen is around 6m x 5.5m we have installed 12 LED 6W down-lighters spaced evenly and an additional down-lighter over the door aperture into the hall. Perfect for us with no shade areas. Also we installed four wall uplight/down-light colour wall washers.
All very different to the overhead fluorescent tube light in the middle of ceiling which greeted us when we moved into the house
Your sparky should be able to offer all the advise when he looks at the job.

Did approx 10m2 with 5 ZEP1 lights. could have done with two more above the breakfast bar, but we are putting in cool pendant bulbs at a later date for that. Don't underestimate how useful the task lights are - with the weather as it is, we don't need the ZEP1s, although as the ambient light levels drop in Autumn / Winter I'm sure we'll need them much more.
We're in the process of finishing off our kitchen and have installed ZEP1s (through Guy). Really pleased with them. Main thing I'd add is listen to Guy's advice on placement. You might think it looks a bit strange on a plan but he was absolutely right. No pics until final fitting later this week, unfortunately.

I've got a load of Zep1s and Zep2 trimless ones in white and black. The Zep2s are the nicest by far.I've just fitted the Haler H2 Pro's in my kitchen. Not the cheapest light, but excellent quantity. I used 12 in my kitchen. Which is 10 x 5.5m (although a separate area doesn't have them), so may be too many in a 5.5x5.5m kitchen. Don't underestimate or skimp on the secondary lighting, it's much nicer to use and much better for creating effects in the kitchen.
