Weekend for me, I am out of holiday for this year.
That excludes race circuits, then banghead

I know of a disused airport in Germany scratchchin
(but that would take more than a weekend to get to, drive on and return from)

Does anyone know someone who has some sway with... Anglesey Circuit

I can do any time really, just need a bit of notice.

Brands/ Goodwood/ Castle Combe and Lydden Hill are all circuits I've been to a fair bit so would be happy with any of them driving

Brands is half a mile down the road from me - but I will have to get the new 4.7 run in first.

I'm on the chocolate spiders, i've used the RL17's which were terrible in keeping tyre pressure. Had spiders and gone through my fair share of them.

I love the look - but i am looking for a change as two are buckled - ok up to 90mph then they shake the sh!t out of the car. I've been looking at forged wheels. SP12's look terrible to me.

I'm just about to buy at set of Federal RSR's to give those a try out after a good run with GoodYear Asymmetric's.

I've tied the 225 width on the front and agree with those posting before it tramlines and is skittish. Nothing to do with the wheel. 235 is so much better.

Happy to join in what ever test you want to do - i know the spiders are ste, however i've not found anything that suits the car tbh

My rl17's leaked when I first got them. I had to check tyre pressures on every drive. They were in a poor condition so I got them refurbished and they haven't leaked since

He's like Beetlejuice, only you have to say trackday three times for him to appear

trackday, trackday...

Hello!

I'm resurrecting this thread because I read lots of things that make sense smile

Did the comparison trackday happen? What are the results?

Can anyone tell how handle a car on SP12? Like a car on RL7? Like a car on Saturns? Worse than both?

I love the compomotives, but I have read they are as heavy as the Spiders, so the only difference is the offset (and strength, of course). Longbow, how do your car handle? Can you compare it with other rims?

thanks!!

Hi there, can't help you on the track day Q but I called compomotive recently about the m06 wheels longbow has and they don't make one of the sizes at present, they needed an order of a few hundred to make them in the right offset.

Unfortunately the track day did not take place.

The thing is that tyres in 17 inch are getting few and far between so I am thinking of getting a set of 18 inch wheels, probably go for Volks as they are strong and light, I will then keep them for track days with slicks on them.

17" front 18" rear, gets you most of the good stuff still.

Please post up any wheel options you come across as I wasted ages looking for some suitable 18" options recently, there seems to be such limited choice in the offsets required. Even wheels that others have posted on here before are either no longer made or not in the sizes/offset required. I almost bought a set of SP12's in desperation but I really don't like the way they look and managed to resist whilst getting 2 more Spiders straightened.
I'm tempted to try some 17's to see how the handling changes as I really don't feel confident in the Cerb on anything other than smooth roads but its having some Gax Gold Pro's fitted by Andy at APM this week so I'm hoping I will notice the difference from the tired old Gaz's it has at the moment.

I've never thought about a staggered 17/18" combo, sounds like a good idea, what are you running Brummie?

Look at my profile pic, they are SP12's agreed on the look, but they are in a 10" rear with a 50 off set, Matt got them made for me.
They are really tough and that off set is very difficult to get, but i can get slicks for pretty much nothing and i can fit them using this combo, with good front tyre clearance using a 235.

My road wheels are Rotas 18" all round, but getting a good front tyre with a 35 profile is pretty much impossible, so i have to run 235/40-18" which rubs alot! Pirelli Trufeo R brilliant tyre, next best thing to a slick so far, with a 265/35-18 rear.

Hello!

First, thanks a lot for the replies.
To take things from the beginning, I've done lots of researches here, and I came to the conclusion, that the "good" 18" wheels are :
- 18x8 - et35 front with 225/35 tires
- 18x9 - et38 rear with 255/35 tires, et35 could be fine, especially with a late Cerbera.
Ideally, the rims should e 21lbs or less (which is SP12 territory)

I've spent a lot of time searching for wheels that look good (without consideration for the budget) and the best looking I found so far are Enkei PF07 18x8 et35 front and 18x9 et40 rear. I assume 2mm more offste won't make a big difference at the rear as there is no scrub radius to worry about. Even more so with something like a 265/40 tire. Other finds are :
Weds SA55M 18x8et35 – 18x9et35
Weds TC-105N 17x8et35 – 17x9et36
Oz ultraleggera 17x8et35 – 17x9et35 / 18x8et35 – 18x9et35
BBS LMP071 + LMP076
Advan RG-D 17" and 18"
Advan RZ 17x8et38 – 17x9et35 / 18x8et37 – 18x9et35
Advan RS-II 17x8et38 – 17x9.5et35
Advan RG-III 17x8et38 – 17x9et35 / 18x8et37 – 18x9et35
Advan RS-D 18"
Work emotion CR 17x8et38 – 17x9et35 / 18x7.5et38 – 18x8.5et38 / 18x7.5et38 – 18x9.5et38
Work emotion T7R 17x8et38 – 17x9et32 / 18x7.5et38 – 18x8.5et38 / 18x7.5et38 – 18x9.5et38

Talking about tires, it appears that 17" combos are very difficult to come by (only extreme performance tires like RE11, Direzza Z2, R1R or AD08R available) and a 16" combo is almost impossible to find! Maybe I've not searched enough? 225/35/18 is available as Pilot Super Sport. Not a bad tyre me think. Those will be the next ones on the daily.

But the main question remains : is it possible to have a car on 18" that handles like one on 16"?

Great post, thanks Julien.
I was getting excited about the Ultralites on this thread:
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Only to find they no longer make the correct size/offset combo for 18's.
I also like the Japan Racing Wheels: https://www.performancealloys.com/Japan-Racing-all...

Hi!

Nice choice indeed! I'm very curious to see some pics to. What sizes and offset did you choose?

On a side note, what about using 18x7.5 front and 18x9.5 rear rims with 225&255 tires?

I think he went for 17" wheels.
the rear offsets of the 18x9,5" are a bit too much for the Cerb
Probably won't fit without some work on the rear wheel arches
