Have a couple of days there and would love to have a really good meal. Can be outside the old city. Great food or uniquely Dutch or both. Have not been there in years.

The Bananenbar is pretty "uniquely Dutch". Menu a little limited. hehe

(don't Google that at work).

I would recommend;

Set inside the old Olympic Stadium is The Oyster Club. Lots of history, great views and lovely food.

For something more upmarket offering stunning views of the city the Ciel Bleu on the top floor of the Okura Hotel is excellent

A short shuttle boat ride from Amsterdam Central station (just behind the station actually) is Loetje aan het Ij. It's a small chain with 5 restaurants. Offers no reservations for groups less than 4 people I think and has a relatively small menu but they are famed for their steaks and calves liver. A favourite of mine and reasonably priced.

Situated just outside the main centre is Restaurant de Kas, located in a converted greenhouse (Kas is greenhouse in Dutch). Most of the fruit, veg and herbs are grown on the premises and other produce is sourced locally. Not eaten there personally but have heard good things from friends who have.

Lastly if your looking for Michelin star quality you have Aan de Poel just outside Amsterdam in Amstelveen. Set close to the water the food is incredible. A real experience.

Hope that helps - drop me a PM if any more info required
