I have a friend (no, really I do) who has a 2002 VW Sharan who's indicators have stopped working. I haven't done too much work trying to sort it out as I'm too busy but he has tried swapping the hazard warning switch and the central control unit (?) on advice of a friend in the trade but they still won't work. He tried putting his parts in the donor vehicle and they worked on that one. All the fuses are oka, well all the ones I can find, maybe there is a hidden one somewhere. Apparently there isn't a flasher relay, it's controlled by the control unit. The car's been in to VW here and his friends garage in the UK, neither can find the fault. He's been without flashers for 4 months now.

Any one have any ideas please?

Found the problem.

For the benefit of anyone else haing this problem on a face lift Sharan, Ford Galaxy and I would imagine Seat Alhambra.

Open the bonnet and remove the battery cover. You will see a small fuse box in front of the battery, next to the washer bottle fill neck. There are three fuses inside, check these first. If all is good check the wiring to it. There is a plug that plugs in to the left of the box with three wires, two thick, one thin. The small wire is for the indicators (in some way), the one on the Sharan I looked at didn't look too good an when I pulled it it broke in two. Soldered a new piece of wire in and after four months my friend now has indicators again.

He has been to a VW dealer, a VW specialist and at least one other garage and paid each time for misdiagnosis from control unit to hazard switch.

Hope this comes in useful to someone else too.
