R1 - Any good? Which one?

Only real change beyond sorting the suspension to work to modern standards, is that the seat could do with more padding and less of a downward slope. I would research it, but I can't really face the R1 forum as they refer to each other as being in 'squadrons' which manages to be both chavvy and ghey in one go.
Saved you the pain. I saw this a while ago before I got my R1.DIY seat modification

Take the positives at least he didn't "swap out the stock suspension"
Or as a normal Brit would say "swapped the standard suspension "
Why the Americanisms?
If anyone says "straight away" for a straight on a track, I'm going to punch them.
It gets right on my tits, we are English not American so why the hell do people speak and even worse type Americanisms.Or as a normal Brit would say "swapped the standard suspension "

(Tire) Tyre is another one that is slowly creeping in

Two things.
1) Commuting to/in London on a bike in the summer - fk that. A million mopeds, buses the size of ferries and enough Addison Lee drivers to last me a decade. Have to endure this twice a week for 6 months.
2) The R1 is seriously fking good. It's insane. Doing speeds on corners I could never achieve on the 1098 (same tyres (Pirelli Diablo RC)...and it's effortless. Like a wet fart until it picks up, the thing howls like a Russian we being double tapped when you're on it - and it makes you want to be on it all the time. I used to look forward to riding the Ducati, but the R1 is on another level - I'm constantly looking for reasons to go out. It's good enough to want to chop the 1098 in and get another...and I never thought I'd say that. Ever.

1) Yes it's hot and sweaty, but where would you rather be? In a car, stuck going nowhere or on a bike, sweating yer nuts off, but actually making short distance of the err, short distances? I do it every day. Love it.
2) Having just replaced a stolen Daytona 675 with a Daytona 675, I now really rather wish I'd knocked back the brave pills and procured me an R1.
bks
The R1 is a joy to ride and a great bike to ride like a loon or just bumble along. I had a 2005 R1 from new for 4 1/2 years and did 75,000 miles on it mainly commuting into London from the herts/essex borders. As it does have a rather tall first gear I dropped a tooth on the front sprocket which made it easier to live with especially in London as you don't need to be in 1st gear constantly, and this allows you to carry the speed in the corners in 2nd gear instead of dropping to 1st and making the bike more nervous. I also de-catted mine and had Akrapovic cans on it from new, also fitted a set of HIDs as the bike has projector style lights. I still miss it to this day.

Good to see they can do the mileage ... I'm racking the miles up on mine riding Manchester-Liverpool most days... I have also dropped from 17T front sprocket to 16T and like you say makes it easier, along with decat, cans and custom remap (PC3) ... I've no intention of selling this one. Good advice on here guys, -1 on the front is peanuts to do,the 4c8 shock does fit but you have to turn it 180degs at the bottom for it to fit.
Best mod on my 5vy is the quickshifter for grin factor and the Magura M/C and lever, brakes so much better now..
I've done the 4C8 shock as well Best mod on my 5vy is the quickshifter for grin factor and the Magura M/C and lever, brakes so much better now..
-1T on front needs speedo healer as although throws the speedo out 6.6% only in standard they are already 8.9% out so after the speedo is over 15% out!
QS and Brembo RCS are next
