Not knowing anything about this subject, any recommendations on sports exhausts (ideally switchable) for my Jul 03 Mk2 GT3? I want one that won't affect the warranty. The car is lovely as it is, but I'd quite like a bit more noise every now and then!

Andrew,

I'm pretty sure that Porsche don't do one for GT3

Anything aftermarket will indeed invalidate your warranty, but some people still take chances.

I am thinking of making some upgrades to mine, but am going to wait a year for the rest of the warranty to run out, before i start going aftermarket etc.

Don't think any aftermarket ones are switchable.

Also, the standard exhaust as not that quiet anyway, if you go much louder, you will not get past most noise tests for trackdays.

Look a little closer at the profile - I think he has other plans whenever he goes to a trackday, and is possibly interested because he's used to quite a lot of noise...

I ran a rhd 993rs with Porsche Warranty and it had a differenct exhaust, different cats and a different chip.

I had a new clutch, re-built dif, cam timing done twice under warranty with no quibbles. It really depends on your relationship with the OPC you use.

How did you guess?

Seriously, no problems with warranty, friend had a 993rs club sport that had similar repairs, again all under warranty at our local OPC.

Don't know how loud you want to go, but Tubi do a Cup exhaust I think.

Guy's

993 RSR is spot on. My Mk1 is heavily modded, with the full Manthey Kit, Mk2 brakes ect ect. My OPC has no problems with this, and as proof, i had to have the coils replaced, and they didn't even blink when the car came in.
Regards the sports exhaust, I'm running the full 103db Manthey/Europipe system, and although it sounds sublime, I'm persona non grata at places like Bedford. I think that they have now toned the system down, so this may be not such an issue now. As for bedford, i have a cunning plan. A plan so cunning...........

...you could pin a tail on it and call it a weasel?

I think RUF do sports exhausts for various models of 993/996 which have an actuator to enable a silencer bypass (i.e. below 4k or so you have a silencer, above 4k ish you have a glorious wail from the bypass).

Bass,

Could you give me more details of the Manthey work you had done, did it include any engine mods ?

I was considering this conversion for my MKII in the near future.

Glen,

i had the full K400 kit. my car is the one featured in GT P.Porsche mag. Kit consists of exhaust with new manifolds, ECU and Air filter. I would recommend the under deck air collector as well. this prevents heat soak and act much like the RS air scoop at moderate speeds The sound is incredible..... On full song, it sounds just like a full on cup car.Personally, i would not hesitate to recommend it. The bonus is it's JZMachtech who do the work. Speak to Steve McHale. great bunch of guy's

The PSE does fit the GT3 as I know of people who haev had it fitted. This is the full swtichable system.

I found it ridiculous that you couldn't spec this on the car from new.

I believe the cost is near to £2k but is worth it for having the switchable option I reckon.

Glenn,

No worries!! When i get home i will send you the info. I have a load of pictures from JZ as the car was being done. If you have a copy of GT Purely Porsche with the Orange 935 on the cover, have a look inside. mine is the Zanzibar MK1 inside. Better still, if you are around the south of england, kent/essex area, a pub lunch and a demo might be in order!!
To give you an idea of the improvement though, it is now a match for a GT3RS in a straight line. Corners are something I'm working on at the moment!!

Regards,

Steve

Thanks guys, I think I will take a look at these options then talk to my OPC about whether there'd be any funny business over the warranty. I don't fancy paying for a new engine if it ever came to that!
