Uni all starts again this month. What additional problem could that bring?

Well, 21,000 students from the West African states will be arriving.

Still, nowt to worry about. Here's the reassurance from one in the know at the cash-strapped Uni's, a Dr Ben Neuman, a virology 'expert' at Reading who teaches West African students.

He said:
‘The screening system at airports means that the numbers of infected patients potentially reaching the UK is tiny.
Universities who think they have a case on their hands would refer it immediately to hospital.’

rolleyes Academia, 'experts', and the real world.

What was the thread title again...

Edit to add, perhaps all academics are not the same?
Anthony Glees, Professor of Politics at Buckingham Uni, has called for West African students to be held in their home countries until they have been declared clear of ebola and the 21-day incubation period has passed.

Well, there you have it, 2 contradictory statements.

Wonder which will be proven correct?

First time buyers will rejoice if a big chunk of the population disappears. Actually, I can't think of anywhere in the UK that wouldn't be improved with far fewer people knocking about.

Ebola's biggest threat in Africa is education. Until that happens, it will spread like wildfire.

Ignorant (brainwashed) idiots.

The fact that all those brought back to the UK and USA have recovered shows how poor their medical care out there must be frown

Its a bit like the film Elysium.

Surely pretty soon we're about to reach tipping point in these African States?

I already suspect that there are far more cases and deaths than we are aware of.

At some point in the not to distant future I think we reach that point where it become futile to try to stem the breakout in these countries.

What do we do then? leave them alone until it dies down?

The real fear of course has to be a virus mutation where it becomes airborne.

I don't think that graph I posted has been updated yet as this is the latest from the CDC:

As of September 14, 2014
(Updated September 18, 2014)

Total Case Count: 5347
Total Deaths: 2630
Laboratory Confirmed Cases: 3095

That is really shocking and is showing no sign what so ever of slowing down, if anything it's speeding up. Will be interesting to see if the curfew helps or not.

Slightly horrible timing that there is a separate outbreak in DRC http://www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola/outbreaks/drc/2014-au...

Possibly one of the biggest threats will be up and coming soon,
the annual Hajj to Mecca.
So many people from throught the World brought together into a limited area.
Many from ther West African areas.

I was involved in this for a few years whilst flying, every single one
of the crew had serious flu-ish type fevers after the return flights from Saudia.

Seems this is hardly in the news anymore which I find rather shocking... it isn't slowing down for the poor people in that part of the world.

You ain't seen nothing yet

All it needs is to hit a hospital somewhere like in South Africa alongside TB and HIV and where resources in state hospitals are threadbare as it is

put it in context thou, flu kills more.

It does kill more cases but mainly due to poor hygiene and health, this is not the world killer as people seem to imply.

Maybe, but Obama never talks about flu like this;

Africa faces a huge problem which is only made worse by a lack of education and stupid religious beliefs.

This is a real virus that will be released in the USA to depopulate us. Vaccine testing is going to be done on the illegals. They have them in facilities now to start testing on them. Why do you think that they need real live people already infected brought here? We are going to then be placed in martial law. Signed sealed and delivered.?
