Bear with me here but I have recently been watching the first series of 24 and discovered I am less interested in the action / hostage / Jack Bauer side of things and much more interested in the dodgy and sinister dealings with the Senator running for President and the control his financial backers have over him.

It made me wonder if there are any decent political thrillers out there - The West Wing / House of Cards in a book if you like (although set in the UK would be a bonus)?

You could give John Grisham's 'The Brethren' a try.
