Cricket: 2014 India tour of England, 9th July-7th September

Nice knock from Butler, ideal circumstances to come in on his debut.
India look frazzled, I think they had to be put in or England to play long i.e. not just playing the day out, fresh start for India tomorrow would have been good from their point of few, get one or two tonight would be awesome....

So the day ends, Cook will sleep well, so will Balance and Buttler. Anderson will be happy that he's picked up a wicket. Now all we need is to bowl in the right place, which has been seen less often than a Cook century of late.
ETA, there have been chaffinches in my plum tree, which makes a change from the blue tits and thrushes more usually seen.

What is this crap about not batting till lunch tomorrow and England NEED to win this test for the series?
Newsflash...no they don't. The first job of any skipper isn't to win, its to not lose.
.
I disagree , far too many captains in the game are too defensive . Domestically we have had a split to 2 divisions and a huge reduction in the points for draw for far too long too many games drifted along. I wouldn't expect an England captain to have the mentality of let's not lose. Let's bat for 2 more sessions no a better way of demoralising an attack is by winning. If we were to draw here we would need to win the last 2 tests to win the series , with Anderson looking at a ban can we take 40 wickets. Newsflash...no they don't. The first job of any skipper isn't to win, its to not lose.

An attitude which, in a nutshell, explains why we, as a nation, cannot compete at a world class level, consistently, in pretty much every sport.I'm just waiting for someone to come along with;

You wouldn't expect a side with 500+ runs on the board to loose from this point with 3 days left in a match (touches wood).
India were making daft fielding errors towards the end of the innings which seemed to me to indicate it was the right decision to have a bowl at them for an hour or so to ultimately try and force a result.

Interesting how much luck plays in the game. Cook/Bell/Buttler all played important knocks, but Cook could have gone for 15, Bell/Buttler for 0. Different complexion on the game then. Another day we would have struggled to 300. Lovely watching Jimmy last night though. Beautiful bowling. Broad needs to work out line/length. This lad Vijay looks a cool customer too.

The media are making such a big deal re Ali's wristbands. Okay perhaps he shouldn't have worn them but what an ott reaction. Nice to see the ECB defending their man.
I caught this at the end of Skys coverage yesterday. Social media means instant condemnation for this sort of thing these days-did someone from some boy band not receive death threats recently for posting something about this same issue in Twitter?I'm all for freedom of speech but I also reckon he should have known better.
