To prevent very high oil temperatures, I would like to mount a fan to the oil cooler like this:

I'm guessing when the car is moving, the air will flow inside through the sidepods and then exit the engine bay somewhere else. If this is correct, the fan should suck air? So that it won't work against the airflow?

What do you think?

Sorry if that sounds rude.

Suck.

But my best guess is that it'll not do a lot when the car is moving. So monitor temps, go for a bigger, better cooler if necessary.

How high is "very high" and where is the sensor mounted?

Thanks for your input smile

Actually the car is not yet finished, but from other cars experience I wanna stay below 120-125°C with track usage.

The fan should start when the water-fans start. Additionally, I wanna put in the "fan override switch" and connect the oil-fan to it.

Or do you have other suggestions?

I don't know the layout -- I'd be inclined to look at the layout: think carefully about air flow through it, ducting to it, venting from it, size.

If water temps are reasonable consider laminova.

Off the top of me 'ead I can't think of anything that runs a fan on an oil cooler, which raises doubts.

I fitted a fan to my oil cooler with the thought that it would help keep things cool. I had it wired in with the radiator switch to come on with the rad fans. In actual fact I have never needed it....... Once moving at any speed the fans do not come on.... Oil and water temps are well under control, and, when stationary it is really water temps that rise more quickly with Oil temps never becoming a concern.

....... I ran with the oil cooler fan disconnected for a year or so, and removed it completely this spring.... Figured it could only reduce flow if it is not running !

In this case I don't buy a fan?

Thought of Stigs page, but if it doesn't help at all I don't have to spend money and time for it ...

The ideal is for the oil to run at a higher temp than the coolant so switching it at the same time would not be good.
I would leave it off until you can demonstrate that you need it.
