R53 cooper s PAS fan
Discussion
So my sister pops in today complaining of a grumbling noise when the cars warm.
Got it on the ramps and tracked it down to the PAS fan. No idea why it has one of those?
Anyway, can anyone point me in the direction of a new part. BMW want £118 which seems a little steep as it looks like a computer fan!
Also she has a problem with her central locking. It wont unlock the door on the fob, so its a key job. But it will close with the fob. Odd.
I'm handy with the spanner but just want some advice before i start ripping the door card out.

Fan try a car parts place eg euro car parts (there are others).
Central locking. Did have some luck with lubrication but on the hole it means new door locking units.
Not to hard to change the hard part I found was moving the window rail back to get the unit out. I had the window up and marked the rail position, undo the bolt at the bottom of the rail then pushed the rail back (Towards the door skin). When finished just move back to mark and do the bolt up. I think I paid about £60 a unit?

the fan is an add on to the original design
it does bugger all as the majority of powersteering pump failures have absolutely nothing to do with heat
they are very easy to take off, 2 bolts and a connector, you can probably take it off and give it a shake and a clean up and it might be ok.
The powersteering fan should not come very often anyway and when it does it shouldn't stay on for long, if it does there is a good chance that your fault is the low speed radiator fan not coming on so the engine is getting hotter than it should and the powersteering fan kicks in and stays running.
