I've got a couple of Ikea Detolf cabinets at my gf's flat.

Going to be a difficult situation - room is to be organised which means potentially my cabinets will have to be in an area of direct sunlight. This worries me somewhat (obviously). If they aren't out like this, they may not be out at all.

As such, I was thinking - is there some kind of UV film that one could stick to the inner surface of the glass cabinets as protection? Would a light tinting film (as used for car windows) work?

With the new set up, I might be able to add a 3rd cabinet too (so there could be a positive out of this).

Would appreciate your opinions/advice. smile

Isn't perceived wisdom that, since you can't get a suntan through glass, UV does not pass through glass?

That said, the white gloss on our doors, skirting etc is much whiter on the surfaces exposed to daylight than on the backs of doors etc.

UV certainly does pass through glass, working for a window film company UV films are commonly used for people with skin conditions that are sensitive to UV or for the reduction of fading. The films are clear so do not alter the appearence of the glass.. if you need any more info let me know

Thanks for replies chaps. I think I might have convinced the gf to keep them out of the sun. Fingers crossed!
