Guys and girls.

Currently living in Leamington Spa and have done so for all of my life bar postings around the UK.

I've just landed a new job in Dordon and feel that for the amount in fuel it will cost to commute from Leamington I'd be better off at looking somewhere a bit closer to Dordon.

I have had a quick Google at areas around Tamworth/Atherstone and not too keen on what I've been reading. Any PHers can offer some reassurance or alternatives would be much appreciated.

I think you might find the property might be a little more affordable in most instances around Tamworth! There are some really nice places to live & it all depends on your budget. Good luck property hunting if you do decide to move

Might have changed with train timetable settings ( making London a bit more accessible), but I believe Nuneaton area was a lot lower ( certainly a few years ago) than other places on the WCML. That said, there's a lot of nice little villages between Nuneaton and Atherstone ,like Fenny Drayton /Higham on the Hill and Witherley .Looking at your profile re the 4 legged horsepower needs, it might suit . Not far off the A5 and Higham (furtherest ) is only about ten miles. Fuel prices in Dordon are on a par /lower than Tamworth .

Tricky one.

Leamington is nice, Tamworth basically isn't. Atherstone and Nuneaton are worse IMO.

This is basically it.
I'm looking at renting for approx 6-12 months just to get a feel for the area.

Rent in Leamington is fairly high. My thinking is that even if I was to rent around the Tamworth area I'd hoped that I could find the best area for a similar price to an average Leamington property. This would still save me £250 per month on fuel, give me a 'nicer' area of Tamworth(ish)to live in and make the commute time shorter.

I am tempted by Solihull, this would cut the commute in half, saving time and money whilst still giving me a nice area to live in. Again, looking at Sutton Coldfield or even Lichfield but not entirely sure.

Tamworth (north ish) was good enough for Edwin Starr to move to from the States. The rural bits are fine and if it's to give you the feel for six months or so what can it hurt to look around there?

Handy for Dordon too.

wink

It won't be far from where "The Staffordshire Hoard" was found, what might be down under the roses in the garden?

Housing round Southern Tammy is not 'PH Massive' stylee though.

Look north ish.

Lichfield is ok, and I have built very expensive stuff in Sutton Coldfield so that definately has nice areas.

Otherwise its a case of trying the Villages.

I think in reality Solihull will only save you 15 to 20 mins unless you go to the east of Solihull centre to places like Meriden, Berkswell.

If you want a town then it is difficult

Indeed, having re-read my posts they come across as quite snobbish which wasn't what I'd aimed for. Most of my time will be spent at work and then wherever I live anyway, I suppose I'd just like a 'safe' area in which to live, so long as my car and/or possessions are unlikely to be vandalised or stolen I'd be quite content.

Some of the places I was posted to were more likely than not, far worse than where I'd be looking to move to but then I had the security of being in a camp with perimeter fencing and armed guards, therefore I never really had the problem of being worried about my things.

I have a few weeks to have a look around anyway, but will take on board and investigate some other places around that area thumbup thanks.

There are pockets of decent places within too, but the outskirts are certainly better. Go through Whittington up the lanes and there's some nice villages, such as Clifton Campville and Lullington. My gran used to live in Haunton and I have family in Overseal, which is more towards Measham but still out of town. All decent places to live.

How much do you want to spend in rent?

+1

I've lived in Nuneaton and Atherstone, they don't have much going for them.

I'd recommend Kingsbury or Twycross, but best to have a drive round the area and see what you think.

Well guys, I have lived in Tamworth for quite a while, and now run my own business from there.

It may not be to everyones taste, but it really does have most things you need in life ! The transport links are probably the best around, hence why a lot of companies are moving here and creating jobs and wealth.
Birmingham is 10 mins away, Derby 25mins, Leicster 30 mins, Nottingham 40... and access to mainline stations, if thats you preffered travel mode.

Birmingham airport 15 mins, East Mids 20,

It all about convienience...

For housing, check out the smaller villages like Baxterley, Wood End, Kingsbury...

Hence ,P100, I suggested the little places just off the A5.Little villages within minutes of the A5.

Baxterley, Hurley and the Whitacres are quite nice The Rose at Baxterley is high on my pub fave list. Kingsbury and Two Gates, fairly reasonable too

The whole area has good links to the "outside world" too

M42 M6 And the Toll Road can get you most places fairly quickly and the rail linking will be even better

But I dont really want TOO MANY outsiders finding us

But as you are a local Leamington lad it's OK

Tamworth is fine, like anywhere there are good and bad bits. I was unsure about moving over here but my other half convinced me it was fine. I was in a pretty leafy semi rural village in South Staffordshire before. We lived in Polesworth / Birchmoor for just under 6 years which was quiet, safe with good access to commuter routes and some great roads for late night blasts. We're now in Wilnecote where there are good and bad bits but again where we are feels safe and is quiet.

What sort of budget do you have? as that would help with advising you on areas.
