So it looks like I'll be moving to Bristol in a couple of months. Ideally, I don't want to live in Bristol per se; would rather be out in the countryside, garden, garage bit more space, a bit less people. However, Bristol needs to be commutable by public transport. So either needs to be on a decent bus route or near a station. So maybe as far East as Bradford upon Avon and as far North as Chipping Sodbury and as far South as Worle, I guess, from looking at the train timetables.

I know Bristol centre well and Bath but have no real idea about the outlying areas. I would like to hear any advice or suggestions that would help me focus on a particular location.

Might want to try the South West rather than South Wales regional Forum ;-)

I worked in Bristol for around 10 years, lived in Bath, Keevil, Marshfield (little village outside of Bath) and Chippenham. Most friends based in Bristol seemed to live around Yatton, Nailsea and liked it. A few of us lived in Chippenham as you can get much bigger houses a lot cheaper plus catch the train to Bristol in about 30 mins. Had friends in Bradford on Avon commute to Bristol but house prices in that area are a bit mental compared to much cheaper Trowbridge.

Basically work out how much you want to pay on commuting (plus length of journey) and either house purchase price or rental cost and work out which suits.

Loved working in Bristol and also loved Bath, both great places, so enjoy.
