Would you pay £70,000 plus for it when you have such superlative options with greater provenance?

Well for someone who bought his first, a 122S, in 1963 and has just taken a punt on my latest of many, an XC90 D5, used, only yesterday I am not sure just how 'anti' you can actually qualify me.

Its interesting, the more manufactures that use aux power units, the further they will develop while driving the costs down.
Ricardo seam to be leading the charge in that area at the moment, they did the system on the P1.

Just read a article on msn about the new xc and its sounds very promising. The performance figures sound very interesting even if real world figure are short of quoted still good.

Those interior photos look amazing.

T-5 = 5-pot turbo. (2.3, 2.4)
T-6 = 6-pot turbo/twin turbo (2.9, 3.0)

now we're looking at a T-5 with a 2.0 4-pot

and a bloody T-8 with a 4-pot?

Maybe I'm stuck in the past but owning one of the last T-5 2.3 engines, I like the idea that the phrase "it's a T-5" means it's a 5 cylinder turbocharged engine that makes loads of noise and torque rather than a tiny sewing machine, boosted to within an inch of it's life that needs to be supported by a glorified starter motor.

Rant over biggrin

To be fair, the 2.0 4pot will be 320bhp all by itself - not to be sniffed at.

I think twin-charging is a very cool technology and initial reviews of the engine have been very favourable.

Time marches forwards - the 5-pot sounded lovely, but when you can get 320bhp reliably out of a 4cyl, then whats the (commercial) point?
320bhp from a 2.0 engine... asking for trouble imo. And the torque will be woeful too.

But that's where the electric motor comes in handy - torque fill - in Mclaren speak.

smile True it won't.

I wonder what direction the inevitable Polestar version of this twin engine will take?

Bigger batteries lol

Or some sort of pull-back system like a kid's toy?

The T5 was also available in many Volvos and Fords as a 2.5.

The T6 was available as a 2.8 and 3.2 also.

Conversely on the diesel side of things and Volvos numbering system the current D3 and D4 diesels are 5 bangers.

The 2.5 T5 was merely a reworked 2.5LPT engine. Proper T5s got more powerful as time went on but the later 2.5 suffered 35bhp drop in power which I thought unacceptable lol (stuck in the past, I know)
The 2.5 HPT was only available in the R and the Focus RS has cobalt lined bores to stop it splitting the liners.

Now, a T5 is a 4 pot... a D3/D4/2.4D is a 5 pot and recently, Volvo have been on about canning the V70 in favor of bringing back the V90...

The V90 is indeed confirmed - probably as an AWD with transverse engine (boooorrrring!)

It's unsure as yet, if the V70 is definitely getting canned in favor of the 90 tho, I've personally not seen any confirmation either way.
