HI,

I have just seen the Jaguar F-Type that Chris Harris drove in his video when he compared it to the Porsche and Aston.

My question is would you buy the car? that has been driven around by Chris & I assume other journalists?

I'd be more worried about the ones they use for the Jag track days tbh. They get a new set of brakes & tyres, and a service. Then they're on your local dealer's forecourt masquerading as Jag management cars.

Yes make sure you avoid any F type with an OV or OY reg plate as those are the ones that have been driven to the limit around various test tracks

To be fair, they can also been Jag management cars too. Some are ok, some have been abused a little.

Not a chance. As above, avoid any 'O*' plated cars. History cannot be determined, especially if it is the 'R models. Mainly track day cars.....

Question Guy's - just how hard do you think any of the development cars get driven? Pave Block, Rig shakes, Arizona, Artic, Nurburgring, MIRA....

They're built so that they can take the abuse- sure they're not rally cars but the point is you can take them by the scruff and they carry on; think about it logically- which components would "suffer" (in your language) as a press or track day car and as a consequence what would be the outcome?

I don't think any of us drive anywhere near the capability of any modern performance car and over its lifetime I bet it's "hard life" consumption is negligible

You wouldn't really know what effect it had until 70-80k miles - I wouldn't take the risk especially how much the car costs and repairs etc

Carsie, I do agree. Having been around the 'Ring with professional Jag test drivers in an XKR-S I was staggered at the amount of punishment the cars endured, lap after lap to make sure nothing failed or feel off.

But as a private buyer and with my money/time paying for issues that may or may not turn up, why take the chance. Also very disappointed with the pre-prep these car receive before being thrown back out into the network, although I am told that the company has been replaced....

Who knows, avoid 'O*'

Personally I'd have no issue with buying one of the press cars. Aside from the fact that the car is designed to be 'driven' you can be protected by a very comprehensive warranty for up to six years.

I would want new tyres and brakes however!

Speaking of warranty - it appears that Jaguar plan to introduce a 2 year warranty on used cars.

Hang on, wasn't there a thread on here about this recently... Some chap bought a car he knew to have been a press test car, the advice given was that it'll have wanted for nothing, Jag PR will ensure any niggle is attended to so it doesn't get marked down in the review... It'll have been serviced every week, paintwork protected, the works... Turned out to be a dog, even the dealer was disgusted at the state of it when it arrived.

Not quite true. Mine new one is an O plate. As said. Avoid OV & OY.

OE, as mine is, is registered by Ridgeway Jaguar of Oxford.

The car mentioned is in my stock (i.e. I'm a Sales Exec there).

I can say the cars are prepared to a very high standard, otherwise they wouldn't end up on our forecourt.

Not all cars that start with an "O*" are press cars. the majority of them are management cars.

If I gave you the keys to drive this, and a used F-Type that's been owned by a private individual, you really wouldn't know which car is which.

Is this just the sporty models or would this advice extend to XJ supersports as well?

All depends who had in as a management car. They're loaned out to anyone who needs one on company business. Would you treat like you're own??

Looking at current XKRS for sale the majority have O* plates...does that mean you should avoid them all?
I watched a mate's video from a Jag Track day and the supervisor in the passenger seat meant a lap time a golf could achieve so maybe a fast jag should be built for such things?
