All GT3s are great cars no question and I personally think 996s are a bargain

But having a/c is a nobrainer

25 degrees yday at Goodwood and as ever mandatory no shorts or t shirts

I wouldn't have been sitting there waiting for the pit exit green light feeling clever I'd saved 2 grand...

Mine was on and blowing ice cold for each 15 min session

In august I'm spending a week in France and I expect the a/c will be on then as well

Perhaps I'm not hardcore enough. Oh dear, "am I bovvered"

Lack of aircon won't be helping. Seats just a further nail in the coffin. But historically, silver Mk 2's are just hard work to shift. I suspect silver Mk 1's are a bit easier.
I have to say if I bought this on condition, (and it seems to be a cracker) I think I'd rapidly fall out of love with the colour. It is incredibly dull. I wouldn't particularly want a black version, but at least a black example has a certain "menace" to it that a silver Mk 2 lacks.
If it had buckets and a Tequipment/Clubsport cage, it'd be easier to shift.
Agree silver looks so boring on these cars, bright colours or black works much better

When was it that Porsche made aircon mandatory in GT3 Cup and/or Supercup cars, so drivers could concentrate better, and mean the performance of the overall car/driver combination was improved in spite of the extra weight? 2012?
The year hasn't arrived yet!
There is no air con on the cups and this has been the case through 996 and 997.

FIA regulations made air con mandatory for endurance racing however and as a result the RSRs have them if they race under the relevant FIA regs. Porsche simply responded to regulations by making a system available, AFAIK they weren't the driver of the change. FWIW the system is also driven from the gearbox and is quite trick.

Sheesh...up for sale and gone again. Nowt wrong with this car, it's had a gazillion owners now but it's only done 3k miles since i sold it, what 2 and a half years ago? Ninemeister did the work that it needed doing after I sold it. For me its sorted, never missed air con whilst I had it in 3 years of ownership, so what if you've got a bit of a sweaty back when you reach your destination, get a coke and a shower and shut the f**k up! Haha. It's not like you'l be visting customers in it, is it? Drove my Caterham home from the office today in a bazillion degrees and I was a tad hot and sticky when I got in....but I had the biggest f***in' grin on my face! biggrin

The car was sold with a certificate of authenticity so I'm guessing this could be one reason why nobody's ripped the seats out yet and put a pair of Sparco's in. Trust me it goes and steers just like any other Mk2 996 GT3.

I noticed that someone has replaced the alu insert wheel with an alcantara one or at least had it retrimmed. Rather laughably is still has the magnetic sticky thing attached to the dash for my old GPS unit and of course the GT3 decals have gone. frown

As an aside it definitely has seen rain that car (the day I drove it home it pissed it down), and bird st and snow...;)

Hi Steve

Ex Mk 2 owner in getting defensive shocker ! !
Sounds like you're enjoying your Caterfield. Just the weather for it !
The aircon "thing" is a funny one, I don't think I've ever heard a 964 RS owner bhing about the lack of it. Maybe aircooled owners are made of sterner stuff .....
Saying that, many moons ago I got stuck in a traffic jam at North Weald on a car boot sale day in my 964 RS. The RS got very uppity as it got hotter and hotter whilst sitting in the 28 degree heat. Eventually it wouldn't tickover at all. The driver rather lost his cool too ranting

Hi Henry,

The Caterham's magic! I love it. Took it out for a great blat earlier on a favourite road and it's a proper hoot, there's a crest that gets it airborne, such great fun! Re: The 964RS That's the thing you remember maybe an isolated incident where it would have been great to have it but other than that...

The Caterham was like a bloody furnace earlier! hehe

6/7 GT3 air con is 25kgs complete

street car air con will not function properly when the car is driven hard on track in this weather.
are you just referring to 996? 997 GT3 air on works fine on track, for as long as reasonably needed. I have done many hours in my 997GT3 on trackdays at 45degs+ and it's been cold all day. My car is not uk spec so may have beefed up air con I must caveat.

Looked far nicer with the stickers IMO, i can vouch for how it drove had many a hooligan moment in it and yes i drove it in the rain too, always makes me chuckle when sellers claim the car hasn't been in the rain.
