John,
Lovely car mate, I hope you managed to get to a solution to drain the tank without too much hassle.

Just wanted to ask...what does she drive like?

I have a Lancia Intergrale EVO 2, a BMW E30 M3 and a 997 GT3 Gen 2, the latter being the track and road. All because I love great handling cars and the Lanica and the BM are of course appreciating classics much like your own.

The question I have is, I used to have a R5 GT Turbo when I was younger and wanted to get a good, standard, low mileage R5 GT Turbo (Raider or White). However, I am also mindful that they love to blow up up all the time, the bits are flimsy and they are only going to be worth so much..which ain't much. So, I am considering biting the bullet and buying a Turbo 2, basically, the same as yours as I think they look great in Red.

So I had some questions:
- Has it been pretty reliable for you?
- Are the parts in pretty good supply and easy to get?
- Whats the handling like? Good fun? Are they manageable....sort of get the back out but not gonna bite you. You can see the slip coming sort of thing.
- Would you recommend one over the R5 GT Turbo...money aside for a moment.
- Does it feel pretty rapid? Nice bit of Turbo lag?
- I am 6ft. Is the seating positing comfortable for a good drive?

Thanks mate. Appreciate thoughts from an owner.

The fact that you can't part with it is a good sign. I asked myself the same question about the BMW M3....what's the point in selling when its one of the best all time cars...what else would I buy> If you cant think of anything better then keep it. Thats my mantra going forward when it comes to cars. Would like to also build a nice collection of 80's and 90's classics. Audi Quattro, Turbo 2, RS2 etc.

Cheers

Luke

Hello luke

Nice talking to you.Not got to the tanks yet as I just havent had the time to do it but will eventually.
Like you I also had the GT turbo and yes it was flimsy but it was such a nice car to drive and handled superbly, I never had trouble engine wise but I did get through a few fan relays and also clutch cables before I had the mod carried out by renault.
The turbo 2 by comparison is a totally different drive in my opinion, I know this sounds strange but to have the engine behind you feels as though you are being pushed rather than pulled with a normal front engined car, does that make any sense?.The handling is superb in the dry but if you are using the michelin trx tyres ( these are the only tyres you can get with the original wheels and are metric) which are a hard compound than in the wet the car is a handful if you take liberty's but you can always get the car back in line. A lot of owners changed the wheels so as you get a much better choice of tyres ( and cheaper) The car hates driving around town and is realy lumpy and is always on the leash and its really hard not to keep it at slow speeds but once you let the car go, well......on the motorways the car happily sits at speed and is always responsive. The sound of the turbo spinning up behind you is a wonderful sound and hardly any turbo lag.I'm 6ft also so yes it is comfortable and spares you can get engine wise but if you do crash damage, panels come from dieppe. I'm not sure about all the parts but there are people out there that can help you.The car has only given me trouble on 2 occasions when I sheared 5th gear completely and couldnt get out of gear and when the engine somehow melted one of the spark plugs but I did manage to limp home .
The car is quite fast but by todays standards there are quite a few cars that will easily beat them in a straight line but on country roads the T2 is a different proposition altogether.

If I had the money I would buy some more group B cars as I think this era in motoring was totally mad. If you have the money and a chance to buy a T2, go for it but give it a good test drive before you make your mind up.I bought mine without a test drive as I knew I just had to have one and I havent ever regretted it.
The answer to the GT over the T2?...no competition, as much as I loved my GT the T2 is for life not just for christmas!.
By the looks of it you have already got some serious cars yourself and good luck to you if you can keep adding ( you can never have too many ).

Hope that helps and keep us posted

John
