Guess my Imp wasn't as temperamental as a Tuscan If you grind in a figure of 8 motion it will take metal off very evenly, but I agree, it is a last resort "I need this engine running tonight" solution.
I ground mine! Just remember to put ground face down.
I'll have a look at my spares but not back until tomorrow.
Unusual to need a thicker shim as I thought the valves stretched a bit over time and revs and the valve moved into the seat. Opening up would indicate wear somewhere, double check? Last time I did mine they all closed up.
