Hi,

I test drove an orange F-Type V8 yesterday....

WOW What a noise, in dynamic mode it sounds like a spitfire, it sounds amazing. The interior is not quite up to Audi standards the ride is a little firm which I suppose is to be expected in this type of car. I found the brakes light on operation and the steering the same. The acceleration is brutal.

I currently have an R8 and can't decide whether it is a good replacement or not for it. I liked the colour in the pictures, but was not sure about it in the flesh. My perfect colour combination would be BRG and tan leather. If it was that colour combination I think i would have bought it.

I had on my list to replace the R8

1. Maserati Ghibli
2. Alfa 4c
3. Jaguar F-Type

I've tested the 4c and my thoughts on that are that it is a lot more "focused" than my car although I am still considering it.
The F-Type as I have said is a great car from a noise/acceleration point of view.

My budget is (maximum) 70K for a replacement including the PX value of my car. Any thoughts on what I should replace the R8 with?

Interesting you say the interior is not up to Audi standards.. While the F-Type isn't perfect, I'd say that neither is an Audi these days. My A4 cab was the last era of a decent Audi interior. My A5 was just a load of st. Rattles, cheap materials, and was the reason I got rid in the end. My XF is way better IMO.

I think it was the colour of the interior rather than the actual quality so perhaps I should have re-phrased that. It was a sea of grey. I would have liked some contrast.

Have you considered a V6S coupe ? I haven't drove a V8 F-Type but did drive a few V6 convertibles and whilst a very good car the Coupe is far better. You get all the pops and bangs with the V6S in dynamic mode if it has the optional loud button pressed, just as you do in the V8. My last cars in order were a RS4, AM Vantage, R8, GrandTurismo, Cayman and then the V6S Coupe, the Jag is my favourite, compared to the new price of the R8/GrandTurismo/Vantage, it's the bargain of the century.

The V6S does not have the sound of the V8 and the coupe does not have the sound of the convertible. I have a V8S and had planned to chop it for an R next year but having driven all the variants I think I'm going to stick with the V8S. I have the performance pack, premium pack, vision pack, climate pack, extended leather pack, 20in Tornado's and Italian racing red paint. With the extended leather and the performance seats I think the interior exudes quality. Drive the car in Dynamic and Sport modes with the roof down and the noise (not to mention the performance) will blow you away.

Agreed, i have a V8S. Best car i've owned and the V8 convertible is the way forward.

Acceleration is brutal as is the sound track. Value for money wise, these are absolute bargains. Ex- Jaguar cars on the market are very high spec and a nice option car about £65k. I went through the Jaguar car configurator and mine new was a whopping £97k

Performance wise, there's not many Supercars that will touch the F-Type in a straight line. Jaguar claim 0-100 in 9 seconds?

Really pleased for you Pete - I'm deliberating between coupe and convertible - edging towards conv and has to be 5 litre due to performance
