New 2014 Cayman (non S) - Buyers beware.
Discussion
Took a detour through Staffordshire on Thursday due to the M6 being gridlocked, found myself barrelling along various a and b roads. The hardest thing was keeping the speed down to acceptable levels, the pdk box just provides seamless go and very quickly you're approaching corners at significant velocity. The manual is much more involving and were the car not a daily then it would be my choice. At no point whilst hooning the Cayman have I ever wanted more grunt- been there done that with a Tuscan.
For the poster with 37.5k to spend you should be pretty close to a 981 2.7 car now I'd have thought.

Yes £2,500 away, another 2 months saving so not long in the grand terms but I wont get much kit for that. For the poster with 37.5k to spend you should be pretty close to a 981 2.7 car now I'd have thought.
Edinburgh have a nice Guards red 981 2.7 manual for £39K
I didn't get a penny off my 981 due to being so keen to get it (I ordered it in Nove 2012 when it was launched at the LA motorshow).
But, I reckon if you're flexible with spec, you could pick up a new one from stock or demo and knock a bit off.
These Caymans don't need many toys added. I have the sat nav, upgraded speakers and the wheels....didn't bother with leather etc... the Alcantara looks great!
If you can, I would go for the 981...
Good luck!

You do have a point.
Whats the on the road price of a new one? I was told Porsche don't give you a penny off list although I haven't actually checked this with a dealer.
Well, a bog standard 981 with 19" wheels the only option is £40,665 plus reg fee and rfl. You'll be able to negotiate this to your budget of 37.5k and possibly better.Whats the on the road price of a new one? You're kidding?I've been to 3 Opc's in recent weeks and totally ignored the idea of a new 981. OK I'll take another visit and see what they can do for me.
Thanks for the headsup.
I sold my 987 Boxster S 3.4 and bought a new 981 2.7 Boxsternwith a manual box. Yes, the old S was a tad quicker, but for me the car is an every day drive and the difference is rarely noticeable.
As said, wind it up to 5-7000 rpm in 2nd and 3rd and it's no slouch. Dynamically the 981 is a leap forwards from the 987.
And it is more frugal, on an admittedly very steady 105 mile motorway run recently I got 41.3 mpg. My average over 3500 miles is 34mpg.

I think the general concensus is the 2.7 is more than man enough for choked up camera infested UK roads, the only time I've found my 987.1 2.7 slightly lacking was accelerating from over 100 mph on German autobahns but even then it was great fun to wind it out too 7000rpm in 4th gear it does get extremely well looked after and fed a stable diet of Shell V-Power Nitro and 5,000 mile oil changes with Fuch Titan Pro-Race-S,I own a few cars including a 600bhp time attack RX-7 and an M3 and never once does my 987 Boxster 2.7 fail to engage and thrill on a spirited drive across country..
I had a 981 Boxster 2.7 manual for a day from OPC Leicester and too me the engine felt tight and needing a few more miles to show it's best but I never felt it was underpowered in anyway..

I got £2k off list last year when I bought mine, so I'd imagine similar or better deals are around now. My local dealer wouldn't budge on price but plenty do. I've been to 3 Opc's in recent weeks and totally ignored the idea of a new 981. OK I'll take another visit and see what they can do for me.

As for 2.7 buyer beware, I actually preferred the 2.7 so that's what I bought, and that was coming out of a 4.7 V8 Granturismo, biggest isn't always best, it's certainly not as fast as the 3.4 but I thought it was more fun.

High end MX5? I've read it all now (& Mrs FarQue owns a 2013 MX5!)
I'm still baffled at how I can give such high praise to something on PistonHeads and people think I'm instead delivering a massive insult. I say this as someone who has OWNED an MX-5 for the past 8 years, and has a custom-ordered Cayman GTS being delivered in less than 10 weeks (in which I originally considered just buying a base Boxster).Beknown said:

I'm talking Boxster 981 now. I ordered a new built to order Boxster 981 2.7 PDK last year for Sept delivery. IIRC list was c£43000 and I got 10% off to paying £39300. Had to negotiate hard and involved 6 dealers but eventually got the deal I was aiming for.I've been to 3 Opc's in recent weeks and totally ignored the idea of a new 981. Buyer beware - you may select a smaller engined variant which doesn't accelerate as well as larger engined variants?
You might expect buyers to select a car taking into account the performance figures etc but for those that don't this message is a godsend

having myself driven the new Cayman non-S I believe without prior knowledge you wouldn't guess it has 240bhp/1300kg, feels underpowered and lacks torqueYou might expect buyers to select a car taking into account the performance figures etc but for those that don't this message is a godsend

Interesting!
A OPC dealer told me OPC has 8.5% of profit on list price, i.e. 10% discout is impossible.
I know it was a fake excuse....

I also only got this deal by taking Porsches expensive finance.
30 days later I settled and transferred the loan to my own bank
