This car came up last week in the classifieds:

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

The key point to note is that it's had 8 previous owners. Would this put people off?

It hasn't yet had a PPI or ECU check, but I'd get this done before purchasing.

Also, any views on Silverleaf as a dealer?

Thoughts welcomed! Thanks in advance...

Hi.
I considered a 997.1 C2 from Silverleaf back in late December. They seemed perfectly helpful on the phone and were very keen on a deal without pushing hard.
In the end I found another car elsewhere, so unfortunately I cannot comment on the full sales service.
In regards to previous owners, 8 wouldn't put me off in first instance. If the history is fine and PPI / ECU checks out then number of owners becomes irrelevant in my mind.

Thanks for the reply.

I've got some plate change data from the dealer, which I was thinking of posting on here to see if anyone knew the vehicle or had a view on what the plate changes might suggest... Does anyone see a problem with me sharing this information?

OK, here's a conundrum for you all - advice welcomed please!

I've got two sources of data on the plate change history of this vehicle. I can't seem to figure out how they align, so will paste (verbatim) as follows:

HPI CHECK RESULTS
The current plate was transferred to this vehicle on 03/07/2014 (Comment: this refers to RK08 HFE)
N8KYF was applied to this vehicle on 25/04/2014
RK08HFE was applied to this vehicle on 05/02/2014
N8KYF was applied to this vehicle on 25/04/2014
SM04ART was applied to this vehicle on 01/06/2008

EXPERIAN AUTO CHECK
Previous VRM Date Changed
RK08HFE 25/04/2014
SM04ART 05/02/2014
RK08HFE 14/12/2012
R16KOB 06/11/2012
RK08HFE 05/01/2011
NG780 26/07/2010
RK08HFE 27/10/2009
MH6 02/10/2009
RK08HFE 26/06/2009

My questions in general are:

1. Should this history be a cause for concern?
2. Any idea why the histories do not seem to match (e.g. SM04ART seems to show different dates on the different reports)
3. Does anyone know the vehicle by these VRMs in order to help add to the history?

Thanks all...

Hi All

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this plate change history? I'm getting the car inspected by OPC today - would love to know if people think this plate change history is a significant red flag or not...

Many thanks,

Stuart

The plate change data looks normal. Original plate comes off and private plate goes and on so on and so forth. What you noticed is most likely an error on the part of the HPI company.

Have a look through the service book find out where it was serviced. Call the dealers and ask them about the car, they should tell you what they know. I got copies of all the service details of my car right up to pre sale inspection from first registration just by asking.

Great - thanks. It's had two services - one at an OPC and one at 911 Sport in Lincolnshire, so will give them both a call.

Appreciate the reply!

Further information following a bit of digging - in no particular order:

- The vehicle had a new clutch in May 2012, which I would guess would be between 18,000 and 20,000 miles
- At that point the vehicle was also chipped and mapped - whether it still is will remain to be seen after the OPC check today
- I've discovered another VRM which was on the vehicle in June 2010: T6 LLV

I'm going to go ahead and get the OPC check this afternoon - but I confess to being a bit nervous about some of this history.

If I think 'worst case' this *could* sound like a car that has been modded, tracked, ragged, and then repeatedly sold on due to issues.

But I could just be over-thinking it.

Any views from PH-ers? Would you spend your money on it?

my 08 turbo had 4 previous owners when I bought it this March (so in 6 years), not as good as one owner only as you know they would have looked after it, but average Porsche ownership in UK is 18 months.

8 in same time would concern me a bit but if service history checks out and inspection all good I would go ahead, I think I would want a fairly good deal as selling on would be harder.

If you plan to keep for 5 years+ won't be an issue though

OK folks - another rev range reading question. What are your thoughts on this:

Total Operating Hours: 993.5
Mileage: 30,000
RR1 @ 981 hours – 24,867 ignitions
RR2 @ 1,003 - ?
RR3 @ 833 hours – 5,329 ignitions
RR4 @ 481.2 hours – 204 ignitions

Cheers,

Stuart

I'd be suspicious of the last few plate changes. It seems the owners bought it, changed plate and then got rid very quickly. Did they know something ??

If you are not feeling right about the car then leave it and keep searching. From what's written maybe you are too into getting the car to be subjective. High number of owners, lots of plate changes in short periods, possible mods.

What year is the car? It should have had at least three services as it should be services every 2 years regardless of the mileage. So it's due for a service most likely, at that could cost up to £1250 if it's a major.

Also noticed the MH6 plate was only on the car for 25 days if the dates are correct? There is a pattern there with the plate changes, they seem to be very short durations. Could suggest a troublesome car.

Just a quick observation with cherished plates. A plate change does not necessarily mean the car was sold. Maybe Mrs & Mrs ordered a new car each, 997 Cab arrived first, got the Plate, them Mr received his 997 GT3 RS and transferred the plate onto his car. Would be recorded by DVLA as a change of owner.

very useful information here - http://www.911virgin.com/porsche/rev-range-informa...

Personally, I dont like ANY recordings in ANY of the rev ranges and if it was my cash, I would walk away.

eh? you wouldn't buy a car with RR1 or 2, ie where the driver had changed gear at or just before the rev limit???

and RR3 is hitting rev limiter which I have certainly done a few times will getting used to the warp speed

neither would worry me - spirited driving only IMHO

Personally Stu I wouldn't buy that car. You've got a decent budget so you don't have to scrabble around for the cars with high owners.

When you sell it the next person will be the 10th owner - a tough sell and will put off A LOT of buyers. No matter what anyone says it will definitely put off a high percentage.

I know you've found it difficult to get the exact colour you want, but wait it out. I honestly don't think this is the one for you

Agreed, with a budget like this you should be happy with every aspect. I looked for a year to find my perfect car, and it is perfect (for me).

Know that it is not close to you but noticed my local Lexus dealership has a white 997 turbo cab for sale. Not looked at it bit its white with red interior which may not be to everyone's tastes.

No details but at Lexus Edinburgh in New bridge.

Hi All

Sorry for the radio silence - I wasn't getting the email alerts that a reply had been posted to this thread.

I did walk away in the end, for all the reasons listed above. If it was 8 owners but everything else checked out then I might have considered it - but the mods, RR readings and also a few less then top notch bits of servicing all add up to making me feel a bit nervous.

So, the search continues!

Thanks, as always, for the considered input!
